June Boerboom, 91

June Helen (LaVoy) Boerboom, age 91, of Walnut Grove passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Sanford Tracy Medical Center.  Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Walnut Grove.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. 

June Helen (LaVoy) Boerboom was born June 17, 1920 to Arthur and Catherine (Paradis) LaVoy in Green Valley, Minnesota.  She grew up and attended country school in the Green Valley area. 

On June 30, 1941 June was united in marriage to Joseph Boerboom at Green Valley.  They made their home in rural Marshall until moving to their farm north of Walnut Grove in 1956.  They retired from farming in 1977 and moved into their home in Walnut Grove.  June became a resident of the Tracy Nursing Home in 2004.  In December 2007 she moved into Country View Assisted Living in Walnut Grove where she made her home until moving to Colonial Manor in Balaton in September 2011. 

June was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Her faith and family were very important to her.  June’s 29 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren were the center of her life.  She spent all year planning and looking forward to the annual Christmas gathering with all the family.  June was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church of Walnut Grove where she participated in the Altar and Rosary Society.  She supported her children as a 4-H leader of the Springdale Climbers Club.  June was also involved in the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant, LNO Club, Keenagers and Senior Dining.  June enjoyed embroidering, quilting and playing cards.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons: Loren Boerboom, Stefan Boerboom, Ryan Boerboom, Mark Boerboom, Daniel Boerboom, Jonathan Boerboom, Chad Stavig, Troy Stavig, Owen Boerboom, Aaron Boerboom, Jeffrey Boerboom, Devin Boerboom, and Levi Boerboom.  Honorary casketbearers will be her granddaughters and great grandchildren.

June is survived by her 8 children: Clarence Boerboom of Marshfield, WI, Robert (Bonnie) Boerboom of Walnut Grove, Roger (Karen) Boerboom of Olivia, Bernard (Marianne) Boerboom of Walnut Grove, Catherine (Marvin) Stavig of Watertown, SD, Dale Boerboom of Draper, UT, Bruce (Lois) Boerboom of Walnut Grove, and Richard (Donna) Boerboom of St. Petersburg, FL; 29 grandchildren; and 46 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers Earl LaVoy and James (Kate) LaVoy and  sister Joan Derynck, all of Marshall; sisters-in-law Clarice (Bill) Versaevel, Rita LaVoy, Ida Louwagie, and Margaret “Peg” Boerboom; and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Joe in 1994, her parents, sister Eleanor, brothers Harold and Lawrence, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and great granddaughter Alexa Stavig. 

 

David Buysse, 59

David C. Buysse, age 59, of Tracy passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011 surrounded by family at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, after an extended illness with pulmonary fibrosis.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 11 at Tracy Lutheran Church.  Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Tracy Area Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.  Interment is in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Tracy.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service - Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

David C. Buysse was born December 11, 1951 in Marshall, MN to Cyril and Sophie (Labat) Buysse.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy.  David graduated from Tracy High School in 1970.  He enlisted in the National Guard in 1971 and served for 20 years in the infantry in Tracy and later in artillery in Marshall. 

On December 6, 1980 he was united in marriage to Susan Gibbons at Tracy United Methodist Church.  David lived in the Tracy area all his life spending a short time in Virginia while working for Schwan’s as a route man.  He worked for Centennial Homes from 1982-1985.  David also worked in maintenance at the Tracy and Marshall National Guard Armories from 1982-2002, for SMSU 2002-2006, and for Sanford Tracy Medical Center 2006-2011.  He was a member of the Tracy Fire Department, retiring after 20 years.  David was involved in scouting for 14 years taking over as Scoutmaster of Troop 31 for the last 3 years.  He was a longtime member of Tracy United Methodist Church. 

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and watching TV.  He loved his grandchildren and spent hours playing with them, going to their activities, and picking the little ones up from daycare.  He also loved his blue Ford truck.  David had a great sense of humor and was also known as “Papa, Crapa, Buysseman, Butch, and Fluffy”.  He loved his best friend and soul mate Sue.

David is survived by his wife Sue of 30 years; children: Jennifer (Stacy) Varpness of Cottonwood, Troy Buysse of Moose Lake, Sara (Josh) Swenhaugen of Tracy, and Mark (Ashley) Buysse of Tracy; grandchildren: Casey Paulzine, Derek, Justin and Bridget Varpness, Madison Buysse, and Aidan and Brooke Swenhaugen; mother Sophie Buysse of Tracy; siblings: Kathleen (Ken) Garrett of Willmington, NC, Carole (Bill) Craig of Dassel, Dan (Deb) Buysse of Tracy, Bev (Myron) Kovash, of Livingston, MT, and Cheryl (Mike) Eischens of Minnetonka, mother-in-law Shirley Gibbons of Sgt. Bluff, IA, sister-in-law Sheila Gibbons of Boone, IA, brother-in-laws, Craig (Sherry) Gibbons of Ft. Dodge, IA and Randy (Jani) Gibbons of Worthing, SD; and many other relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his father Cyril, infant brother Roger, nephew Brian Buysse, father-in-law Ronald Gibbons, and brother-in-law David Gibbons.

 

Ruben Holstein, 87

Ruben Holstein, age 87, of Marshall, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall.  Burial was at Marshall Cemetery. Ruben Leslie was born to Julius and Adelia (Rahlfs) Holstein on November 10, 1923 in Tracy.  He was baptized at Tracy Methodist Church. Ruben attended country school and graduated from Tracy High School in 1942. Ruben was the captain of his football team and was a 4-H and FFA member.

On February 5, 1950, Ruben was united in marriage to Edith Heck at Tracy Methodist Church.  The couple farmed raising grain, sheep, cattle, and pigs.  Ruben’s daughters had horses as a 4-H project.  Ruben was also a Springdale township board treasurer.

After retiring from farming, they moved to Marshall in 1988.  Ruben drove cars for Lockwood Motors for a number of years and was a taste tester for Schwans.

Ruben’s enjoyments included watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and visiting with relatives and friends. After moving to Marshall Ruben prided himself on being the first in their neighborhood to get his snow shoveled and yard work done.

Ruben was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall at the time of his death and before moving to Marshall, a member of Tracy United Methodist Church.

Ruben passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.  He had reached the age of 87 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Ruben is survived by his loving wife, Edith, of Marshall; two daughters, Susan (and Elton) Goeman, of Jeffers and Sharon Johnson and Howard Siegel, of San Diego, CA; two granddaughters, Erin Goeman, of Costa Rica and Crystal (Charles) Simpson, of Buffalo, NY; great-granddaughter, Simona Tenorio, of Costa Rica; sister, Violet Newkirk, of OK; brother-in-law, Gerald Armitage, of Sioux Falls, SD; and sister-in-law, Gloria Holstein, of Owatonna, many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ruben was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Clarence, Frank, Gilbert, Arthur, Kenneth Holstein, Evelyn Daniels and Luella Armitage.

Betty Lou Meyer, 83

Betty Lou Meyer, age 83, of Marshall, formerly of Tracy, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall after a courageous battle with lung cancer.  Funeral services are pending with the Stephens Funeral Service - Tracy Area Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com

 

David Seivert, 42

David L. Seivert age 42 of Tracy, MN, formerly of Brewster, MN died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at his home in Tracy. 

Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, MN.  Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a prayer service at 5:00 PM and a rosary at 5:30 PM. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. 

Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Elkton, SD following a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the service.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.
