Obituaries from the week of Dec. 7, 2011

Timothy Barrett, 61

On November 15, 2011 Tim passed from this life to eternal life with the Lord. Tim was born August 2, 1950 as a twin with his brother Tom to Robert L. & Barbara (Elaine) Barrett Sr. in Rock Island, IL. Tim’s passion for life and all it offered was to be admired.  He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. Tim spent many summer days chasing fish on local lakes with his son Connor.  He also loved coaching Connor’s baseball teams. Tim in his earlier years traveled to Alaska to fish with his brother’s Tom, Rob and numerous friends.   If you didn’t know how to fish Tim would teach you.  If you knew how to fish you were fair game for a call to go fishing. Tim’s motto, “A Bad Day of Fishing was better than a Good Day at Work”.

After loosing a close friend in the Vietnam Conflict in 1968, Tim joined the Marine Corp. Tim’s MOS was a M60 machine gunner.  Tim’s passion and valor was recognized and he was advanced to Lance Corporal and lead gunner.  Tim, while in the Viet Nam conflict truly understood the Marine Corp motto of “No Man Left Behind”.   He was Honorably Discharged from the military in late 1969 and was awarded the Purple Heart because of his injuries and dedication to duty. After Tim’s military service he went to work as an Ironworker for LH Soules and enjoyed working on many of the buildings we know today as the IDS Center and other notable structures. Tim if you knew him was quite the salesperson and developed that trait into sales of material handling equipment throughout the state.  His last career move was to join Thomas Bren Homes as Project Manager.

Tim was preceded in death by parents Robert Sr. and Elaine Barrett and his brother, Fredric (Ric).

Tim is survived by his wife Jan, son Connor, sister & brother in law Susan & Bill Cochrane, twin brother Tom Barrett, brother and sister in law Rob Jr. & Barbara Barrett and honorary brother and sister Larry & Julie Miller.

He will be missed by many other relative and friends. The family extends a special “Thank You” to David Srock and brother in law Bill Cochrane from the Order of the Purple Heart office for all their help and support.

Mass of Christian Burial was at the Church of St. Joan of Arc. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

He is the son-in-law of Perry and Carol Fales of Tracy.
