Linus Dardis, 81

 

Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Gabriel’s Church on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 for Linus Joseph Dardis. Fr. Jeffrey Dobbs was the celebrant.  The organist was Mary Ann Boom. The song leader was Lloyd Winter.  The pallbearers were his nephews, Chuck Dardis, David Dardis, Mike Weinzetl, John Weinzetl, “Danny” Weinzetl, Doug Weinzetl, Keith Weinzetl, Jeff Weinzetl, Jeff Shea, and Steve Shea.  Honorary pallbearers were Duane Paplow, Darrel Schipper, Jerry Olsem, Steve Salentiny, Jim Reese, Carl Hennager, Marv Storm and Dale Brock.  Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery will be at a later date.  Military honors were provided by the Fulda VFW Post 9017 and American Legion Post 318.

Linus Dardis, the son of Charles Benedict and Josephine Gertrude Molitor Dardis, was born on June 20, 1929 in Milroy, MN.  He grew up in the Milroy area and attended school there until 1940.  Linus graduated from Tracy High School in 1947 and entered the U.S. Air Force on September 23, 1950, serving until his honorable discharge on April 7, 1954. 

Linus was united in marriage to Therese Catherine Weinzetl at IHM Catholic Church in Currie, MN on September 18, 1952.  After their marriage they lived on several farms throughout Murray County.  They settled on a farm north of Fulda, MN in 1973 to farm and raise livestock.  In April of 2010 they moved to Tea, SD to live with their daughter. 

Linus passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 81. 

A devout servant of Christ, Linus’ faith was developed by his family, religious leaders, and the angels and saints.  He received the sacraments of Baptism, the Eucharist, and Confirmation at St. Michael’s Church in Milroy.  Linus served the church as an altar boy, lector, Eucharistic minister, rosary leader, 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer.  He was a member and past Commander of the VFW Post 9017.  Linus had a great love for all animals, especially his cows.  He was a hard worker who instilled a strong work ethic and religious values in his family, particularly his nieces and nephews as they spent summers helping at the farm.

Survivors include his wife, Therese Dardis of Tea, SD; daughter, Marie (Scott) Daggett of Tea, SD; grandson, Josh (Marissa) Brinkman of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Alita Lenertz of Tracy, MN; twin siblings, Nora (Bob) McCoy of Tracy and Norbert (Dolores) Dardis of St. Joseph, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Donald Dardis and sister, Norma Traen.

Memorials are prefered in Linus’ memory to the Knights of Columbus, the Fulda Historical Society, the Prevent Cancer Foundation (www.preventcancer.org), or a charity of your choice.
