Beverly Adams, 85

Funeral services for Beverly J. (Mickelson) Adams, formerly of Tracy area, were held Friday, June 29, 2012 from Washburn-McReavy Chapel in Hopkins, MN with interment at Groveland Cemetery, Minnetonka.  Rev. Charles Anderson officiated.

Beverly Joyce was born November 25, 1926 to Ernest and Ruby (Shaw) Mickelson in Holly township, rural Dovray, MN.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Govig and received her elementary education at the Plum Creek School, Dist. 24, Murray County, MN and graduated from Tracy High in 1944.

Bev waitressed at the Exchange Hotel in Tracy earning the money to put herself through two years secretarial training at Mankato Business College.  After completing the course she was employed as a private secretary/receptionist at Swift & Company, Marshall.

In the mid-1950s Beverly moved to Minneapolis to work at Honeywell Industries where she met her future husband, Jack H. Adams.  They were married June 17, 1961 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Walnut Grove.

Bev and Jack lived in the Minnetonka area their entire married lives, raising their four children there.  Beverly was a devoted wife, mother and home-maker.  She loved flowers and gardening and long walks.  Bev was an intellectual and an avid reader.  She and Jack enjoyed annual trips to Idaho, several trips to Alaska and a life’s dream trip to Europe in 2002.

She was a longtime faithful member of Central Lutheran Church of Minneapolis.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 51+ years Jack H. Adams; two daughters, Judy (Steve) Marsh, Boise, ID, Jane (Cliff) Smyrl, St. Paul, a son Roy (Beth) Adams, Minneapolis; grandsons Anthony Adams, Baraboo, WI and Adam Adams, Portland, OR; daughter-in-law Mary Jane Adams and great-grandson, David and great-granddaughter, Aurora Adams, all of Portland OR; sister Marilyn (Richard) Hansen, Currie, MN; brothers, Jerome (Judy) Mickelson, Garvin, Merlyn of Tracy and Richard (Janet) of Alexandria, MN; sisters-in-law Anna Mae Mickelson, Tracy and Donna Mae Mickelson, Walnut Grove.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roger and Duane Mickelson and son Jackie Adams, Jr.

Sadly missed by the multitude of lives she enriched.

 

Nona Swift, 75

Nona G. Swift, age 75, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Marshall and Russell, passed away at her residence in Sioux Falls of an apparent heart attack on Sunday, July 1, 2012. Funeral services were held Friday, July 6th at Grace First Parish in Russell. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery in Custer Township. Condolences may be sent to www.hamiltonfh.com.

Nona Gail Coyle was born November 24, 1936 to Blaine and Mattie (Strunk) Coyle in Garvin, Minnesota.  She was the youngest of 4 children.  She attended school in Russell, Garvin, and Tracy, MN. In 1952 she moved with her parents to San Diego, CA where she graduated from Helix High School.  After high school she attended college and worked at a drive-in movie theatre before she began her career with Southwestern Bell. 

She married Jesse Swift on December 7, 1956 in San Diego, CA where they made their home.  They had 3 daughters: Carrie, Melinda and Shelly.  In 1973 they moved to Russell, MN where she continued her career with Northwestern Bell until her retirement in 1992.  She lived in Russell, Marshall, Rochester and, for the past 20 years, in Sioux Falls, SD.

Her second home was Yuma, AZ where she spent the past 20 winters.  She participated in multiple park choirs and annual talent shows where she was known for her renditions of “Santa Baby” and “Rindercella.”  She was an active participant in her park church.  She considered her Yuma friends her second family.

Nona enjoyed crossword puzzles, all word games, was an avid Wheel of Fortune fan and found special joy in identifying grammatical errors in printed text.  She cross-stitched a Christmas ornament each year for her grandchildren. She was a Sweet Adeline for several years in Marshall.  She spent countless hours patching blue jeans for her grandchildren and their friends. Nona’s monkey bread and award-winning spice cake were “must have” items at all family gatherings.

Survivors include her daughters Carrie Hansen, Marshall, Melinda (Mark) Buss, Marshall, and Shelly Ritchie, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Emily (Ben) Doherty, Renae Hansen, Jesse (Danica) Buss, Spencer Buss, Scott Buss, Brett Ritchie, Erica (Jesse Frost) Ritchie; and sister, Jeanene (Dayle) Swift of Russell.

She was proceded in death by her husband, Jesse in 2000, parents Blaine and Mattie Coyle, and siblings Waldo Coyle and Joann Almhjeld.

 

 

John Wreath, 85

John R. Wreath, age 85, of rural Tracy and Balaton, passed away at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy on Monday, July 9, 2012. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at the Balaton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  The Hamilton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to www.hamiltonfh.com
