Joyce Fox, 89

Joyce A. Fox, age 89 of Tracy, MN, formerly of Richfield, MN, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.  Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the St. James Episcopal Church on the Parkway in Minneapolis, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  A luncheon will be served immediately following the service in the church social hall.  Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at 2:30 PM following the luncheon.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.  Online condolences may be placed at www.almliefh.com

Joyce Arlene Fox was born May 16, 1923 to Paul W. and Alice R. (Anderson) Quist in Minneapolis, MN, Hennepin County.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended Minneapolis South High School, graduating in 1941.

On April 17, 1945 Joyce married Charles E. Fox at the Ft. Snelling Chapel in Minneapolis.  They made their home for fifty one years on Bloomington Avenue in Richfield, MN.  Joyce worked as a Special Learning Aide in the Richfield school system for fifteen years. 

She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church on the Parkway in Minneapolis, where she was active serving communion to homebound members.  She was also the first woman to serve on the church Vestry.  Joyce also served on the Board of Opportunity Workshop in the 1950’s.  She enjoyed tutoring at Opportunity Partners and traveling, having toured Sweden with her four cousins in 1986.

In 2002 Joyce and her husband moved to Tracy, MN to be closer to their son.  Joyce became a resident of the Tracy Nursing Home and later moved into Prairie
View Healthcare Center, where she died Friday, July 27, 2012 at the age of 89.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Charles Fox of Tracy, MN; two sons, James (Lauri) Fox of Tracy, MN and Charles W. Fox of Richfield, MN; three grandchildren, Kathleen (Daniel) Joyce of Everett, WA, Elisabeth (Andrew) Johnson of Mankato, MN and Sean Fox of Tracy, MN; one brother, Robert Quist of Jordan, MN; one niece, Kristen (Glenn) Nemanic of Jordan, MN; one nephew, David Quist of Jordan, MN; and friends.

Her parents, Paul and Alice Quist preceded her in death.

 

Don Hicks, 85

Don Hicks, 85 of Tracy died on Tuesday July 31, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Tracy Area Funeral Home willl be handling the arrangements. Services are pending and will be held at the Tracy United Methodist Church later this week.

Sharon Schmidt, 65

Funeral services were held for Sharon Faye Schmidt on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN, with Rev. Christopher Naig officiating.  The organist was Darlene Bose with special music by Emily Sanow.  The pallbearers were Mark Sanow, Shane Sanow, Paul Sanow, Aaron Sanow, James Sanow, Mike Sanow, Rick Sanow, Brandon Kathman, and Jessie Kathman. 

Sharon Schmidt was born on March 19, 1947 in Tracy, Minnesota to August (Bud) and Martha Carrie Christensen Sanow.  She attended school in Tracy and later in Marshall.  Sharon made her home in Marshall.  Over the years Sharon worked at Marshall Produce, Swifts, Marshall Legion and the Corner Bar and Lounge.  In 1980 she moved to Slayton. 

On July 30, 1982 she and David Schmidt were married.  Following their marriage they made their home in Lake Wilson, MN.  In 1983 they moved to Orr, MN and worked for David’s parents at the Ash Trail Lodge and Resort.  In 1988 they returned to Slayton and Sharon worked at the VFW and later at Huisken Meats in Chandler. 

David passed away on April 13, 1994.  Following David’s death Sharon moved to Lake Wilson where she lived until 2006 when she retired and moved back to Slayton. 

On July 6, 2012 Sharon moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton and passed away there on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at age of 65.  She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, shooting pool and cooking. 

Survivors include her six siblings and their spouses, Larry and Linda Sanow of Slayton, MN, Gary and Char Sanow of Marshall, MN, Rick and Brenda Sanow of Lynd, MN, Phyllis Sanow of Marshall, MN, LeAnn Sanderson of Balaton, MN, Marsha Dilly of Woodstock, MN, mother-in-law, Bernice Schmidt of Mesa, AZ, step-daughter, Gayle Miller and her husband, Bob of Slayton, MN, step-son, David James Schmidt, seven step-grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, David Schmidt, brother, Douglas Sanow, nephew, Cory Sanow, and father-in-law, Marlyn (Babe) Schmidt.
