Mary Curtis, 98
Funeral Services for Mary
Katheryn Curtis will be held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday,
August 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton
from 4-7 p.m. with a CDA rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
The organist is Sharon
Lais. The song leader is Sheila Crowley with special music by Ruthanne
LaQua. The pallbearers are Greg Surprenant, Thomas Reiter, Shannon Tate,
Scott Vandeputte, Jennifer Curtis, and Lucas Blesener. Interment is at St.
Ann’s Cemetery Slayton, MN.
Mary Curtis was born on June
26, 1914 on a farm near Slayton, Minnesota to Fred and Julia Boyle West.
She grew up on the family farm. Mary graduated Salutatorian from Slayton
High School in 1932. Mary then attended normal teacher training in
Slayton and taught country school for several years.
On June 14, 1937 she and Glenn
Curtis were married at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. Following their
marriage they made their home in Slayton. Mary returned to teaching for
one year after her marriage. In 1958 Mary started working as a clerk at
Sacks’ grocery store in Slayton. She later worked at Nordin’s Supervalu,
which later became Jim’s Market. Mary retired in 2004 at the age of
90.
After a brief stay at the
Murray County Medical Center, Mary moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton
on August 15, 2012 and passed away there on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the
age of 98.
She was a member of St. Ann’s
Church were she was active in the W.C.C.W and with the Catholic Daughters of
America. Mary also was a member of Brookside Circle. Mary enjoyed
writing poetry, walking, traveling and nightly drives with Glenn.
Survivors include her husband
of 75 years, Glenn Curtis of Slayton, MN, six children and their spouses, Mary
Jo Surprenant of Mankato, MN, Colleen and Bob Reiter of Golden Valley, MN, Mike
Curtis of Hampton, VA, Pat and Mark Donaldson of Knoxville, TN, Tom and Candy
Curtis of Eden Valley, MN, and Kathleen and Charlie Blesener of Elk River, MN,
19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, two sisters and their spouses,
Jerry and Ray Milewski of Minneapolis, MN, and Theresa and Ed Tomsche of
Melrose, MN.
She is preceded in death by
her parents, son, Daniel Curtis, son-in-law, Ken Surprenant, five sisters,
Carmel Brouillet, Alyce Miller, Pat Knuth, Betty West, and Joan Walters, and
one brother, Joe West.

Suzanne Hahn, 86
Suzanne M. Hahn, age 86, of
Currie, MN passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 as the result of an
automobile accident in Murray County. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the
St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Walnut Grove, MN. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handled the arrangements

Suzanne Mary Hahn was born on
May 30, 1926 to Jules and Lydia (Samyn) Lauwers on the family farm in rural
Marshall, MN, Lyon County. She was
baptized, received Holy Communion and was confirmed at the Holy Redeemer
Catholic Church in Marshall, MN. Suzanne attended country school and then Tracy High School, graduating
in 1944. After graduation, she
went to the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis for two years,
receiving her degree in office management.
On January 29, 1955 Suzanne
married George Hahn in St. Paul, MN. They made their home on a farm south of Walnut Grove, MN. Suzanne was a homemaker and helped on
the farm most of her life. She continued to live on the farm to this day. She was a founding charter member of
St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Walnut Grove and was active with the Ladies
Guild.
Suzanne enjoyed gardening,
polka music, reading and keeping up with current events, feeding birds, and
loved her dogs, which were always Dachshunds. She loved socializing with her family, friends and
neighbors.
On Monday, August 13, 2012
Suzanne died as the result of an automobile accident in Murray County, MN at
the age of 86 years old.
Suzanne is survived by her
three children, Don Hahn of Currie, MN, Tom (Brenda Stynski) Hahn of Marshall,
MN and Julie (Shawn Hofer) Hahn of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren,
Melissa, Donovan (Kristi), Jacqueline and Angela Hahn; two great grandchildren,
Hayley and Bailey Hahn; one sister, Yvonne Christenson of Marshall, MN; nieces,
cousins and a host of friends.
Her parents, Jules and Lydia,
husband, George, son, Robert, brother-in-law, Joe Derynck, and daughter-in-law,
Peggy preceded her in death. Blessed be her memory.
Dr.
Odein Hyland, 84
Dr. Odein L. Hyland age 84 of
Tracy, MN died Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in
Tracy. A Memorial Service will be
11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to
the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at a later date in the Ft. Snelling National
Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home
of Tracy is handling the arrangements.
Odein LeRoy Hyland was born on
February 16, 1928 to Knute and Mary (Pechacek) Hyland in Claremont, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the
Christian faith and attended Claremont High School, graduating in 1946. He then attended Mankato State Teachers College for two years
and worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. In August of 1950 Odein enlisted in the
USAir Force and received his “wings” in 1952, when he was commissioned as a
Second Lt.. His squadron was decommissioned,
so he then was trained as an air traffic controller and stationed in the
Pacific Northwest during the Korean War.
In 1953, Odein married his
high school sweetheart, Marjorie Ann Krienke in Owatonna, MN. In 1955 he received his honorable
discharge and returned to Minnesota. That same year Odein enrolled in the School of Dentistry at the
University of Minnesota and received a Bachelor of Science degree. They spent several years in a small
town near Rochester, MN before moving to Tracy, MN in 1965 where he opened his
Dental practice. In 1993
Odein retired from his Dental practice.
He was a life-time member of
the American Dental Association, and also a member of the National Rifle
Association of America, the U of M Alumni Association, Tracy Sportsmen’s Club,
Minnesota Waterfowl Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Tracy American
Legion. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing and shooting trap.
In October of 2007 they moved
into O’Brien Court and then became residents in 2009 at Prairie View Healthcare
Center in Tracy, where he died August 19, 2012 at the age 84.
Odein is survived by his wife,
Marge of Tracy, MN; two brothers, Glea (Delores) Hyland of Rockford, IL and
Arlow Hyland of Rosamond, CA; one sister, Anna Nelson of Milaca, MN; one
nephew, and friends.
His parents, Knute and Mary
Hyland, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
The family requests that
memorials be given to the Tracy Lutheran Church Building Fund.
