Ardis Haugen, 84
Funeral Services were held for Ardis Haugen at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Doug
Minton officiating. The organist was Kathy Schwartz with special music by
Heidi Winter. The pallbearers were Dennis Bassing, Mike Haugen, Brian
Bassing, Keith Hansen, Dillon Hansen, and Jacob Lohnes. Honorary
pallbearers are Erica Peterson, Patty Manwarren, Christine Fifield, Sally
Fifield, and Jenna Lohnes. Interment was at Willow Lake Cemetery in rural
Tracy, MN.
Ardis Irene Haugen was born on October 16, 1928 in Dovray,
Minnesota to Albert and Isabel Oiom Hobart. She grew up in Dovray and
graduated Valedictorian of her Class in 1946 from Westbrook High School.
Ardis then attended Teacher Training in Montevideo. Ardis taught country
school for 2 years near Dovray.
On August 30, 1949 she and George Haugen were married at the
Lutheran Parsonage in Westbrook. Following their marriage they farmed the
Haugen family farm southeast of Tracy, MN and raised their five children.
In the early 1980’s Ardis took several Sociology and Religion classes at
Southwest State University in Marshall. She loved learning and knew
a lot about many subjects. She also was very interested in history and politics.
George passed away on May 26, 1999. Ardis remained on the farm until July
2012 when she moved to The Meadows Assisted Living in Worthington, MN.
In June 2013 due to failing health Ardis became a resident of the
Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN. Ardis passed away there on
Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the age of 84.
She was a former member of Willow Lake Lutheran Church in rural
Tracy, MN where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Ladies Aide. In
2004 Ardis became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN. She
also was a member of the Dovray Legion Auxiliary. Ardis enjoyed getting
together with special friends and cousins, Eleene, Louise, Phyllis, Ruby,
Helen, and Vonnie for all of their Birthdays. Ardis enjoyed watching Jeopardy,
doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, gardening and caring for her beloved dog,
Mork. Ardis loved to travel and visited several foreign countries like
Norway, Israel, Jordan, Greece, Italy, France, Spain and Mexico.
Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Barbara and
Dick Bassing of Andover, MN, Steven and Dodi Haugen of Tracy, MN, Jeanne and
Rusty Fifield of Apple Valley, MN, Christine Haugen and Jeff Lohnes of
Minneapolis, MN, and Elizabeth Haugen and her Fiancé, Mike McDonald of Worthington,
MN, 11 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one sister, Lorraine and
Darold Guttormson of Prior Lake, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, George.
