Silvia Radke, 85

Silvia E. Radke, 85, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Tracy, MN, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.

Silvia Evangelina Toledo was born February 21, 1928 in Antofagasta, Chile, South America to Carmen and Guillermo Toledo.  In 1948, she met Eddie Radke in Chile.  After two years of long distance romance, Eddie and Silvia were united in marriage in Antofagasta, Chile.  Not knowing any English, Silvia bravely moved away from her family to Tracy, MN.   While adjusting to life in the U.S., Silvia trained under two doctors for four years to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).  For many years Silvia was employed at the Tracy Hospital and Christian Manor Nursing Home.  A devoted wife, Silvia was an active member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary and was very involved with many church activities.  She loved fishing with her favorite “guide”, Grandpa Eddie, and also enjoyed knitting, gardening, baking and cooking “huge” meals for family and friends.  Silvia was extremely proud of her family and surrounded them with love and compassion. After Eddie passed away in September of 1999, Silvia moved to Detroit Lakes.

Her beautiful voice, love for her family will forever be remembered and missed by her children: Dr. Alan (Kim) of Minneapolis, Dr. Armand (Maricela) of Detroit Lakes and four grandchildren who she adored: Brittany of Minneapolis, Brianna of Minneapolis, Phillip of Denver, CO and Jessica of Bloomington, MN along with two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edward, one brother: Guillermo and sisters: Nellie and Iliana.

We thank everyone for the many years of friendship, love and support to our Mom.
