Mildred Miller, 98

Mildred S. Miller age 98 of Balaton, MN died Friday, August 9, 2013.  Services were held Monday, August 12, 2013 at Sillerud Lutheran Church, rural Balaton.   Interment was in the Sillerud Lutheran Cemetery, with a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the burial.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton handled the arrangements. Mildred Sarah Miller was born July 24, 1915 to Ralph and Jennie (Larson) Seaman in Russell, MN, Lyon County.  Over the years they lived in St. Croix Falls, WI and Pontiac, MI, before returning Russell.  She was baptized in 1931 in the Presbyterian Church in Russell and confirmed in 1944 at the Sillerud Lutheran Church of Balaton.  Mildred attended Russell High School and was Co-Valedictorian of her senior class, graduating in 1933.

On May 26, 1944 Mildred married James Miller at the Sillerud parsonage and they made their home in rural Balaton, MN.  Besides being a housewife and mother, Mildred also worked as a grocery store clerk, a waitress and as a postal clerk.

She was a past member of the Presbyterian Church in Russell and a current member of the Sillerud Lutheran Church, where she had been active through the years in Ladies Aid, church quilting and was a member of the Degree of Honor.  Mildred enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting, traveling and gardening, but her greatest love was spending time with her family and the many grand, great and great-great grandchildren.

On December 31, of 2004 she moved to the Balaton Assisted Living and in October of 2007 Mildred became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton, where she died, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the age of 98.

Mildred is survived by her four daughters, Charlene (Marvin) Chandler of Balaton, MN, Yvonne (Bruce) Wee of Balaton, MN, Elaine (Greg) Curry of Hutchinson, MN, and Kathy (Steve) Spielman of Balaton, MN; one son, John (Claryce) Miller of Tracy, MN; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Beverly, two sisters, Vera Hillquist and Ellen Schroeder, granddaughter, Amy, and Buddy, her dog.

 

 

David Newberg, 66

David Allen Newberg age 66 of Tracy passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Murray County Hospice in Slayton.  Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10 at the Tracy Area Funeral Home.  Interment was in North Hero Township Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service - Tracy Area Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

David Allen Newberg was born September 21, 1946 in Tracy, MN to Arthur and Angela (Walsh) Newberg Sr.  He graduated from Tracy High School in 1965.  David served in the military for 21 years, first with the Air Force serving in Vietnam, and later with the Army from where he retired.  David lived in Germany for 11 years. 

On September 21, 1990 he married Armestina Bolingkit in Copenhagen, Denmark.  They moved back to Tracy in 1990 where he has resided since.  He drove school bus for Tracy schools and worked in Marshall until he retired in 2009.   David enjoyed being with his family.

David is survived by his wife Armestina of 23 years; son Kevin Bierbaum of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Pat (Gerald) Smith of Massillon, OH; nephews: Aaron Smith of Omaha, NE, Jeremy Smith of Akron, OH, and Joshua Smith of Cleveland, OH; niece Jody Newberg of Minneapolis; and three great nieces.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Arthur Newberg Jr.

 

 

Charles Schwartz, 87

Charles H. Schwartz age 87 of Tracy, MN died Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Hospice House of Marshall, MN.  A public visitation was held from noon until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Tracy Lutheran Church.  A private family only memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Tracy Lutheran Church, with interment to follow in the Tracy City Cemetery.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. Charles Henry Schwartz was born on January 20, 1926 to Raymond and Esther (Dietz) Schwartz in Sanborn, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith and attended school in Sanborn, graduating in 1944.  He enlisted into the US Army on October 1, 1945 and served until March 4, 1947, when he received his honorable discharge.  Chuck then moved back to the Sanborn area and began working for CNW Railroad.

On June 14, 1953 Charles married Margaret Voge at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN, where they made their home until 1956, when they moved to Tracy, MN.  He was depot agent/telegrapher for the CNW and then DM&E Railroads from 1953 until his retirement in 1991.

Charlie’s greatest joy was spending time with all of his family.  He also enjoyed reading, avidly visiting the Tracy Library daily for many years, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and traveling. 

In 2011, Charles became a resident of Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, until in June of this year, when he moved into the Hospice House of Marshall, MN.  On Wednesday, August 7, 2013 Charles died, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 87.

Charles is survived by his wife, Margaret Schwartz of Tracy, MN; two daughters, Debra (Dave Peterson) Bjorklund of Tracy, MN, Brenda (Rick) Halvorson of Cannon Falls, MN; one son, Steven Schwartz of Redwood Falls, MN; three grandchildren, Jeremy (Fiancé, Beth) Bjorklund of Walnut Grove, MN, Lisa Bjorklund of Fargo, ND, and Ashley Schwartz of Carlsbad, CA; nieces, nephews and friends.

His parents Raymond and Esther Schwartz preceded him in death.

 

 

Joyce Wurscher, 73

Joyce Wurscher, age 73, of Hutchinson (wife of Raymond Wurscher), passed away Tuesday at the United Hospital in St. Paul.

A Private Family Service will be Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson, with interment in St. Anastasia Catholic Cemetery in Hutchinson.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be Friday, August 16, 2013, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Saturday, August 17, 2013, 8:00-10:00 A.M. at the Chapel.
