Irma Fedde, 79

Irma E. Fedde age 79 of Balaton, MN died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.  Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Balaton, with a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the burial.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.

Irma Ellen Fedde was born October 9, 1934 to Glen and Luella (Nelson) Van Winkle on the family farm in Custer Township, Lyon County, near Balaton, MN.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton and attended Balaton Public Schools.

On June 20, 1951 Irma married Lawrence Fedde at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton and they made their home on the Fedde home farm near Balaton.  She was a farm wife and mother to her family for many years on the farm, until 2011 when she moved into the Lakeview Estates in Balaton.  Then in 2012 she became a resident of the Wooddale Nursing Home in  Redwood Falls, MN to be closer to her daughter.

She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton and was active over the years in the church women’s groups, serving as president of the Ladies’ Aid for several years.  She enjoyed cooking and baking and decorating cakes for weddings and other special occasions.

Recently, Irma became a patient of the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN where she died, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the age of 79.

Irma is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Peggy (Bryan) Huwe  of Redwood Falls, MN; four sons, Larry (Kathy) of Amiret, MN, Robert of Balaton, MN, Thomas of Marshall, MN and John (Sandy) Fedde of Norfork, NE; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Royal) Johnson of Mesa, AZ; two brothers, Arnold (Helen) Van Winkle of Balaton, MN and Dean (Rosie) Van Winkle of New Ulm, MN; brother-in-law, Raymond Kirk of Balaton, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.

Her husband, Lawrence, one son, Jimmy, her parents, and one sister, Jane Kirk preceded her in death.

 

Marilyn Larson, 64

  Marilyn J. Larson, 64, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Born on March 13, 1949, at Grand Forks, ND, Marilyn was the youngest daughter of Andy and Virginia “Peg” (Quale) Larson of Hallock, MN, where she was raised.

She received a special education degree from Moorhead State University (MSUM) and began a long teaching career; first in Tracy, MN, where she also coached girls’ basketball, and later at Moorhead Senior High School. Her students were like family to her and her life’s theme became “you can do it.”

Shortly after completing cancer treatment, Marilyn retired from teaching in 2004, to her home on Little Detroit Lake. There she welcomed everyone to come and enjoy it with her. Her focus was always on encouraging, serving and giving. Her dedication to others could be witnessed through her interactions with her students, her church and community, and her family.

In July, 2012, Marilyn moved to Fairmont Assisted Living, Moorhead, due to health issues and shortly afterwards entered Eventide Lutheran Home. In spite of continuing challenges, she enjoyed laughing and making new friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin sisters; and her brothers-in-law, Gary Cameron and Bill Braun.

She is survived by three sisters, Virginia (Byron) Danielson, Fargo, Kathy Braun, Mandan, ND, and Angie Cameron, Detroit Lakes; nine nieces and nephews; and extended family.

William Litfin, 67

A Celebration of Life Service for William “Bill” Litfin, age 67 of Windom, will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom with Father Russell Scepaniak officiating.  Burial will take place in the Walnut Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at the LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.

William “Bill” Litfin passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home in Windom.

Norman Schnieder, 74
