Virginia Ann (Setterberg) Hartz went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. Virginia was born on October 24, 1946 to Conrad and Kristina Forsberg Setterberg, in Slayton, Minnesota.

Virginia graduated from Slayton High School and went on to attend Mankato State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education. She began her long teaching career in Tracy, Minnesota, where she taught for twelve years having taken one year off to teach at a Christian school in North Pole, Alaska. While teaching in Tracy she attended a seminar where she met her future husband, Jim. She and Jim were married at her parent’s home, after which she moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where she resumed her teaching career.

Virginia’s love for children, prompted her to pursue a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Michigan State University. She went on to teach kindergarten in various schools in Michigan until cancer caused her to retire in 2010.

As a young girl, Virginia professed her faith in The Lord and was baptized at Lake Sarah Baptist Church, Slayton, Minnesota. Wherever she lived she continued to be involved in the Lord’s work. Currently she attended Cornerstone Baptist Church where she continued to remain active even after she was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout her long illness she remained strong in her faith and Virginia was a consistent witness to those with whom she came in contact. Family and friends were most important to Virginia and she loved to welcome them to her home!

Virginia’s parents, Conrad and Kristina Setterberg and her brother-in-law, John Norton preceded her in death.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Jim, two step-sons, Jason (Stephanie) and Adam, two step-grandsons, Jacob and Austin, four sisters, Eleanor Norton, Lorrie (Tom) Pryor, Karen Setterberg, and Audrey (Mike) Hansberry, four nieces and nephews, Stacy Mulder, John Norton, Bridget Lewis, Jeremy Berlin and six great-nephews and niece, Jordon, Zachary, Anna, Luke, Jake and Rhys.

Funeral services will be at Lake Sarah Baptist Church in Slayton on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. John Lassen officiating. Interment will be at Lake Sarah Baptist Cemetery, Slayton, Minnesota.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Lake Sarah Baptist Church in Slayton from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements. Sandra Kramer, 61

Sandra K. Kramer, age 61, of Marshall, formerly of Tracy, passed away at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 9th at the Skandia Evangelical Free Church in rural Balaton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Slayton Memorial Garden. Sandra Kay Kramer was born was born on October 5, 1952 in Tyler, Minnesota to Gerald and Jean (Magnuson) Runia.

She is survived by her four children, Jason of Marshall, John of Tracy, Jenny of Marshall and Jessica Lund of Montevideo; and six siblings, Keith of Isle, Dale of Rockford, IL, Lois Bedow of Tyler, Nancy Ward of Ottumwa. IA and Norman of Rogers; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Penny Pearson, 60

Funeral services for Penny Pearson were held at the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Kerry Boese officiating and Rev. John Lassen delivering the message. The organist was Dianne Johnson with special music by Wyatt Heezen, Maggie Heezen, Karlie Heezen and Sue Nelson, Tim Bengtson, Heidi Winter and Rev. Arlen Foss. The pallbearers were Richard Swan, Gordon Swan, Tyson IIIg, Alan IIIg, Greg Vander Poel, and Bob Gaalswyk. Interment was at Highland Home Cemetery in Hadley, MN.

Penny Pearson was born on September 9, 1953 in Slayton, Minnesota to Alvin and Hilda Meyer Kadolph. She grew up on the family farm north of Hadley, MN and graduated from Slayton High School in 1971. Penny then attended Canby Vocational Technical School in Canby for Dental Assistant graduating in 1972.

On October 14, 1972 she and Dean Pearson were married at Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm near Hadley and Penny worked for Dr. Behrends in Slayton and later for Dr. Murray in Tracy. In 1974 Penny decided to quit working to spend time at home raising her family. In 2000 Penny started working for Murray County Hospice in Slayton. She retired due to health reasons in 2011.

On March 3, 2014 Penny entered St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN and passed away there on Thursday, April 3, 2014 surrounded by her family at the age of 60. She was a member of Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley where she taught Sunday school, was active in the ladies group and was a member of the Altar Guild. She also was a member of the Southwest Trail Rider Association, Lake Wilson Saddle Club and Broken Arrow Archery Club. Penny enjoyed spending time with her family, horses, horse shows, archery and shopping.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Pearson of Hadley, MN, two children, Darcie Heezen and her husband, Jon of Hadley, MN and Michael Pearson of Sioux Falls, SD, four grandchildren, Wyatt, Maggie, Karlie and Morgan Heezen.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
