Florence Swanson, 90

Florence Julia Swanson, born October 29, 1923 in Monterey California has passed away on September 9, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. Formerly of Bloomington and Walnut Grove, MN Florence served during WWII in the WAVES.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vernon Swanson Sr., brothers, John Thacker, Bill Thacker, Frank Thacker and sisters Claire Merrill and Edie Allen.

She is survived by her four children, Vernon “Sandy” Swanson Jr. (Paula) MN, Dave Swanson (Donna) NE, Sharon Whitney MN and Mark Swanson (Andrea) TX. Florence has 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for the care they provided to Florence. Florence was strong in her faith, family and country.  She will always be remembered by all who knew her. Thank you.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.  

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity of Mary, 9900 Lyndale Ave. So. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.  Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Ave. So. Bloomington, MN handled the arrangements.
