Richard  Clauson, 92

Funeral services for Richard B. Clausen were held at the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Kerry Boese officiating.   The organist was Brenda Whitehead with special music by Eli Johnson.  The flutist was Juli Baecker.

Pallbearers were Brad Bergerson, Russell Bonnstetter, Paul LeTendre, Dwight Overbeek, Dennis Swan, and Tim Wornson. 

Richard Clauson was born on April 27, 1922 in Hadley, Minnesota to Bernard and Lena (Halbostad) Clauson.  He grew up in Hadley, graduated from Slayton High School in 1940 and attended Worthington Junior College.  On December 5, 1943 Dick enlisted in the U.S Army and became a pilot. Captain Clauson was honorably discharged on November 18, 1945, but his WWII stories stayed with him through his life. After the war, Dick lived in Indianapolis, IN and met the love of his life, Mary Wheeler. They were married on July 2, 1948.  While in Indianapolis, he worked for Farm Bureau and attended Purdue University.

 In 1949, Dick and Mary moved to Hadley, MN where they raised their children and spent the majority of their lives. Dick owned and operated a well drilling business, Clauson Well Company. He worked with his father Bernard, his son Allan and his grandson, Michael.  Dick retired in 1984 but continued worked for many years.  In 2002, Dick and Mary moved to Alexandria, MN to be close to Barbara and her family. They spent time enjoying each other, helping and visiting family and friends, along with an occasional casino visit.  Dick moved back “home” in 2010 after Mary passed away.  He became a resident of Golden Living Center in 2012 and loved his time there with his new family and friends. Dick passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the age of 92.

Dick loved his family, his community and his work.  He was a member of Hadley Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council for several years.  Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the El Riad Shriners, Hadley Lions, the Lake Wilson American Legion Post and Slayton American Legion Post.  He served on the Hadley City Council for 33 years. He also served on the Highland Home Cemetery Board and was a member of the Minnesota Water Well Association and the South Dakota Water Well Association.

Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing, a good cup of hot coffee, visiting with friends and telling stories. He loved the family lake home on Island Lake, near Park Rapids, MN and invited many friends to stay there over the years. If you drove through the countryside with Dick, he could remember every well he drilled, the year it was drilled, the well depth, and the family who owned the land. During his last five years, he especially enjoyed daily visits with his son Allan, casino trips with his daughter Valerie, shaking dice with his friends, BINGO and activities at the home, his birthday parties, and any time with friends and family.

Survivors include his three children and their spouses, Allan and Pamela Clauson of Slayton, MN, Valerie and Al Fincher of Sioux Falls, SD, and Barbara Clauson of Alexandria, MN; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary and brother, Donald Clauson. 

Interment was at Highland Home Cemetery, Hadley, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Lake Wilson American Legion Post and the National Funeral Honors Team. To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.

 

Marlene Pool, 76

Marlene C. (Schauf) Pool, 76, formerly of Tracy, MN, passed away peacefully at Agrace Hospice, Madison, WI on February 24, 2015.

Ms. Pool received a degree in education from UW Stout, Menomonie in 1967, as well as going on to study in the graduate program there. She taught Home Economics for many years in Durand, WI as well as in Shoshoni, WY. 

In 1969, she married Alvin D. Pool of Tracy, MN. They were married until his death in 1995.

She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Bartel of Chilton, WI, Joyce Hubbard of Stevens Point, WI, and Wilma Hayden of Elmwood, WI, her daughters, Cynthia Pool of Rice Lake, WI, Carla Pool of Sun Prairie, WI, Carolyn Pool of Minneapolis, MN, and Catherine Pool of Cumberland, WI, and three grandchildren.

Funeral Mass to be held at St. Dennis Church, Madison, WI, on March 20, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. Memorial reception to follow.

 

 

George Reese, 87

Funeral service for George Reese, 87, of Tracy, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Tracy.    Interment took place at the Tracy City Cemetery.  Military Rites provided by the U.S. American Legion Post 173 of Tracy.

George L. Reese was born on August 25, 1927, to Theodore August Reese and Jennie Elizabeth Allen, on a farm west of Windom.  He grew up in the Windom, Storden and Dovray areas and attended school in Dovray and Westbrook.  George worked as a projectionist at the Westbrook Theatre in Westbrook, the Walnut Grove Theatre in Walnut Grove and the Hollywood Theatre in Tracy.  He took time out for service in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the 717th Tank Battalion which was attached to the 23rd Infantry Division out of Fort Lewis, Washington.  After his honorable discharge, George returned to the Hollywood Theatre in the evenings and owned and operated Reese Radio & TV Service during the 1950s. 

He met and married Harriet Haney at the Church of Christ in Tracy.  The couple was united in marriage on May 12, 1952.  George served as Deacon at the church and one time Chairman of the Church Board.  Through testing at the Federal Building in St. Paul, George obtained a First Class Radio and Electronic License.  He later went to work in the Marshall District Office for the Minnesota State Patrol as a Senior Radio Technician.  George spent 31 and one half years there and worked evenings at the Hollywood Theatre for 25 years. George and Harriet were members of the Roaring Lions Motorcycle Club out of Amiret in the 1970s, the Eagles Club in Marshall, and American Legion Post 113 of Marshall.  The American Legion Post in Storden, MN, is named after his Uncle, Herb Reese, who was killed in World War I.  George send monthly newsletters to his children about his life growing up.  His retirement time was spent reading the Bible, western books, researching the history of Tracy and Lyon County.  He did electronic repairs and was a Ham Radio Operator and member of the Marshall Amateur Radio Club.  George was very generous and contributed to many charities.

George died on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Sanford Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls, SD. 

He is survived by his wife, Harriet, of Tracy, children Nancy (and Jamal) Ansari of Placentia, CA, Marlys (and Steve) O’Neal of Granite Falls, MN, Marilyn (and Paul) Savage of Shreveport, LA, George Jr. (and Denaye) Reese of Fort Worth, TX, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two more great grandchildren expected this year, aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lisa Weinzetl, 52

Lisa K. Weinzetl age 52 of Tracy, MN, formerly of Currie, MN died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at her home in Tracy.  A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Almlie-Horvath Funeral Home in Tracy.  Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 PM also on Friday, March 13 at the funeral home.  Interment will be at a later date in May.  The Almlie-Horvath Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Lisa Kay Weinzetl was born June 4, 1962 to John and Kathryn (Veroeven) Weinzetl in Slayton, MN and grew up in Currie, MN.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie and attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School.  Lisa then attended Tracy Public Schools, graduating from Tracy High School in 1980.

She attained her LPN license at Riverbend Technical in New Ulm, MN and worked for several years in health care, before becoming self-employed doing telephone sales work.  Lisa lived in several areas of Minnesota and then moved back to Currie in the early 1990’s.  After her fathers death she moved into her mothers home and cared for her until she entered a nursing facility in 2001.  Lisa remained living in the family home for several years and then moved to Tracy. 

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Lisa loved to read, attending horse shows, listening to music, going to concerts, staying in touch with family and friends, and playing cards and games.  She will forever be remembered by her card playing friends as “13”, as an endearing nickname and for her wonderful quick wit..  As a family historian, she spent countless hours keeping track of the family history and loved getting together with all her relatives at the reunions.

Lisa battled Leukemia for many years and other related health issues, but she had a strong, keep moving forward approach to life.  She moved into Twin Circle Apartments when she moved to Tracy and died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at her home.

Lisa is loving remembered by all who knew her and survived by her two sisters, Sharon (Douglas) Bullerman of Adrian, MN and Debra (Craig) Anderson of Aberdeen, SD; two brothers, Michael (Rhonda Binder) Weinzetl of Hutchinson, MN and John Weinzetl of Currie, MN; three nieces, Stephanie, Stacy and Melissa; one nephew, Nicholas; special friends, Rick Bjorklund and Steven and Eddi Almlie, plus many other friends.

Her parents, John and Kathryn, infant brother, Kevin, uncles and aunts preceded her in death.
