Karen Brown, 103

Karen Brown, 103, of Westbrook, MN died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center, Jackson, MN.  Services will be 11:00 PM , September 11 , 2015, at the Almlie-Horvath Funeral Home in Westbrook, MN.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A luncheon will be served at the funeral home with burial in the Westbrook Cemetery to follow. Allan Farber, 82

 

Allan Farber age 82 of Papillion, NE, formerly of Walnut Grove, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Huntington Park Care Center with family by his side.  Memorial services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 4 at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.  Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

 Allan Andrew Farber was born August 8, 1933 on the Farber farm west of Walnut Grove to Andrew and Hazel (Harriman) Farber.  He was baptized as an adult at United Methodist Church in Walnut Grove.  Allan graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1951 and attended South Dakota State College. Al was drafted into the Army during the Korean War.  While on leave, Allan and Marilyn Pieper were married on January 30, 1954. He was honorably discharged in 1955, started farming with his dad, and worked as a mechanic part-time at the Walnut Grove Airport.  Al was a rural mail carrier for the Walnut Grove Post Office.  He retired in 1995.  Al loved being involved in his children’s lives, watching them in sporting events, music activities and plays, and visiting them wherever they lived. 

Al was very active in the community over the years with involvement in the American Legion and Honor Guard, “Shetek Plainsmen” Barbershop Chorus, Lions Club, WG school board, Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant Committee, and English Lutheran Church Council and Sunday school.  His hobbies were bowling, church choir, dancing, hunting and fishing, card club, wood working, gardening, traveling and community plays.  He had a special passion for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant, where he was best known for portraying Mr. Kennedy, who climbed up the steeple, raised the cross, and placed it, praising God with a fist in the air as a sign the community was now complete.    He was dedicated to the pageant from the beginning, renting his Plum Creek land to the pageant since 1979, where the production has been held ever since. Al loved to smile, laugh, and tell jokes. 

Allan is survived by his children: Jeff (Sue) of Walnut Grove, Tom (Lori) of Britton, SD, Brad (Nadine) of Bruce, SD, Bret of Watertown, SD, Louise (David) Dornbusch of Papillion, NE, and Amy Farber Knowles of Cedar Park, TX; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and sister Betty Bannick of Walnut Grove. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers William, Maurice, and Howard, and wife Marilyn.

 

Laureen Harris, 84

 

Laureen June Harris, 84, of Carlton, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth.  She was a retired LPN. 

She attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet and was active in sewing tote bags for their mission trips.  She also was a member of Sewing Sisters at Salem Lutheran Church in Mahtowa.  Laureen also enjoyed knitting and croqueting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Laura Dunteman; husband, James; brother, Gerald; sisters, Viona Pagel and Annola Pagel and several nieces and nephews.

Laureen is survived by a sister, Rosalyn Zvorak of Cold Springs; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Ihnel of Northwood, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Amiret Community Cemetery, Amiret, MN.  Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet, MN.  

 

 

Dorothy Ludwig Jensen, 94

 

Dorothy LeMaine Ludwig Jensen passed away peacefully in hospice on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the age of 94 years.

Dorothy was born in Garvin, Minnesota on December 29, 1921 to Otto and Clara Ludwig.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a faithful, loving servant to God all her life.

She attended country school in Murray County, and graduated from Tracy High School.  After high school her adventurous spirit led her to Rockford, Illinois where she did clerical work, and later managed a Fannie Farmer candy outlet for many years.  There she met her husband, Stanley Jensen, and they made Rockford their home for the rest of their lives.  They had two children, Paul and Patti.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Patti Napier, her grandchildren and a niece and nephew and their families of Rockford.  She is survived locally by one sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Russell Highby of Lamberton, their children, Lowell Highby of Lamberton and Janet Poehler of Eagan.  She is also survived by nieces and nephew Jane Gregg of Marshall; Mary Chelin of Tracy; Dale Robinson of Currie; Karen Schmitz of Shetek and nine great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley, her son Paul, her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Daryl Robinson, Stanley’s brother and his wife, a nephew and a great niece, great nephew and many friends – along with her beloved and mischievous dog Bosco.

Blessed by the memory of her fun sense of humor, laughter, and love for everyone no matter what the circumstances.  She will be dearly missed.

 

Doris Lerohl, 88

 

Funeral services for Doris Lerohl were held at Bethany Lutheran Church Storden, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 with Rev. Kent Krumweide officiating. The pallbearers were her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were the staff members of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home. Interment was at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery Storden, MN.

Doris Mae Lerohl, the daughter of Conrad and Freda (Donner) Benson, was born on August 8, 1927 in Lucan, MN. She grew up in the Lucan, Walnut Grove, and Revere areas attending school in Revere and graduating from the Lamberton High School in 1944. Doris was united in marriage to Harold “Bud” Lerohl on July 7, 1949 in Willmar, MN. After their marriage they lived in Storden, MN. She remained at their home after Bud passed away in December of 1983. In 2006 Doris moved to the Walnut Grove Assisted Living.

Doris entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN in December of 2012 and passed away there on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the age of 88.

She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden and was a past Sunday School Teacher and Bible School Teacher. Doris also belonged to the Storden VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries and was a Cub Scout den mother. Doris enjoyed bowling, reading, knitting, embroidering, word puzzles, following high school sports, travel, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her 6 children, Robert (Diane) Lerohl of Storden, MN, Bruce (Jeanette) Lerohl of Tracy, MN, Connie (Freeman) Taylor of Slayton, MN, Tim (Lori) Lerohl of Marshall, MN, Kristi (Mike) Crowley of Iona, MN and Doug (Shirley) Lerohl of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Preston Lerohl, Jeffrey (Jeimy) Lerohl, Travis (Missy) Lerohl, Eric (Crystal) Crowley, Brittany Lerohl, Christopher Lerohl, Casey Lerohl, Jeremy (Erica Freeman) Crowley, Nathan (Summer Nason) Lerohl, Brooke (Tyler) Berg, David (Caitlin Kelly) Crowley, Brad (Adrienne) Taylor and Renee (Jerry) Cox; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Bryon Lerohl, Hunter and Samantha Lerohl, Berkley Lerohl, Jerilyn, Jerron, and Jenny Cox, Cassondra McCracken, Barry Walter, Breyanna Taylor, and Grace; great-great grandchildren, Mercy, Justus and Asher McCracken sister, Carol (Don) Fridley of Wabasso, MN and sisters-in-law, Virginia Benson of New Ulm, MN and Elvera Benson of Balaton, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Charles Lerohl, 3 brothers, Darold, Dennis and Ronald Benson and sister, Marjorie Hansen.
