Lillian Plasschaert Anderson, 93

Lillian Anderson, age 93, of Luverne, Minnesota, died peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Tracy, Minnesota. Lillian Madeline Camilla Plasschaert Anderson was born July 23, 1922 to Achille B. and Virginia (Edger) Plasschaert in Tracy, MN. She attended school through the 11^th grade in Tracy and then moved to Illinois to live with cousins. She later received her GED from Rock Island, IL.

She was united in marriage in February of 1945 to Harry Cherry in Rock Island. Harry passed away in April of 1965. Lillian was employed in the communication field as a telephone operator for 23 years.

In November of 1966, Lillian married Herman Krogman in Sheldon, IA at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Sheldon and Lillian helped Herman operate the Krogman Sanitary Service. Herman passed away in March 17, 1986.

Lillian stayed for a while in Sheldon and eventually met and married Miles Rind in May of 1988 in Sanborn, IA. The couple moved to Aledo, IL and would winter in Texas. Miles died in 1994. She met and married Willis Anderson in 1995 at Lake Nebagamon and continued to winter in Texas. After Willis passed away in 1999, Lillian moved to Luverne, MN to be closer to family.

On Sunday, July 17, 2016, Lillian died peacefully surrounded by family at the Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, MN at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 25 days. 

Lillian was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, Minnesota. She said moving to Luverne enabled her precious time with her great-grandchildren, Jaysen, Jacob, Isabela, Tomas, David, and Elizabeth, which she truly enjoyed. Settling in Luverne also gave Lillian the opportunity to help others at the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home and the Minnesota Veterans Home. Taking care of others and just sitting and visiting with people brought her such joy.

Lillian is survived by her son, Douglas (Elaine) Cherry of Larchwood, IA; grandchildren, Melissa Chicas (Alberto Soroa), of Worthington, MN, and Angela (Erik) Ensrud, of Worthington, MN, their mother, Sandy (Bob) Gardner, of Worthington, MN; six great-grandchildren; a sister, LuCille Isham, of Queen Creek, AZ; step-children, Mary Ellen (Bill) Lloyd of Fayetteville, AR, Willie (Lorry) Rind, of Sherrard, IL, Steve Rind of Zephyrhills, FL, Bruce (Paula) Rind of Zephyrhills, FL, Darren (Janet) Rind of Aledo, IL, Diane Pearson, of Sarasota, FL, Buck (Belinda) Rind of Sherrard, IL; many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family and friends.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Pauline (Paul) Billiet, Edgar (Velette) Plasschaert, Eileen (Paul) Meadows Jacks; a grandson, Jason Ray Cherry; four husbands; and step-children, June (Jack) Hurd, Preston (Dehlia) Cherry, Harry Everete (Betty) Cherry, Marj (Buck) Schwarz, Evelyn (Ron) Schilmoeller and Mike (Sheila) Rind.

Eugene Earl Robbins, 89

Earl Robbins, age 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2016 in Flagstaff, AZ.

Earl was born in Amiret, MN on August 17, 1926 and resided in AZ since 1953.  He was preceded in death by his wife Janice Robbins, step-son, Scott Langmack, brother, George Robbins, and first wife, Kathryn.   Earl is survived by daughter, Sherlyn Riley, and step-daughters, Nikki O’Neill, Pam Plude, Lynn Whitmire and Kim Olson, as well as 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.   He is also survived by sister, Florence Lorenz, of Staples, MN and brother, Merlin Robbins, of Seligman, MO.   

Earl was a WWII veteran having served in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre.  He retired in 1964 from Civil Service where he worked at the Navajo Army Depot.

Earl was an active member of the Lion’s Club and a lifetime member of the Elk’s Lodge, both in Flagstaff.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Alaska in his younger years.  He most enjoyed traveling in his RV and spending time with family and friends. 

The family of Earl Robbins would like to give a public thank you to the caregivers at Brookdale Assisted Living and Hospice Compassus of Flagstaff who helped make Earl’s final year a comfortable one.

Earl’s love for family and friends will continue to be felt in the hearts of all, and he will be forever missed.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 16 in Sedona, AZ.  Donations in Earl’s name can be made to Hospice Compassus of Flagstaff.

Helen Towne, 93

Helen Marie Towne, 93, of Garvin, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 13, 2016.  Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Garvin Congregational Church in Garvin.   Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.  Online condolences may be placed at www.almlie-horvath.com.  The Almlie-Horvath Funeral Home in Tracy is caring for the family.

Helen Marie (Greenfield) Towne was born on Saturday, May 19, 1923 to Albert and Fanny (Sonius) Greenfield on her parents’ farm near Balaton.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, and graduated from Balaton High School in 1941.

On September 25, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to James Towne at the Balaton United Methodist Church in Balaton.  They made their home on a farm near Garvin where Helen was a homemaker.  She also worked as a cook for several years at the Towne House in Garvin before starting her own catering business with her sister Babe.

Helen enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, card playing, and going to the casino.  She was the true definition of a family matriarch, with family and friends always gathering at her house.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2016, Helen passed away at her home near Garvin at the age of 93 years, 1 month, and 24 days.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (Ken) Kuk of Excelsior, MN, Jerry (good friend Cindy) Towne of Balaton, MN, and daughter-in-law, Linda Towne of Clearwater, MN; grandchildren, James Towne, Lisa Dobias, Jesse Towne, Dana Condie, Melissa Kuk, Anton Towne, and Nichole Schreier; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, son, Ronald, great granddaughter, three brothers, and two sisters.

Eunice Weedman, 87

Eunice (Dunteman) Weedman age 87 of Marshall, formerly of Amiret and Alexandria, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.  Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16 at the Tracy United Methodist Church.    Burial was in the Amiret Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service - Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Eunice was born to Chris and Elsie (Sabinske) Dunteman on January 16, 1929 in Tracy, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.  Eunice graduated from Tracy High School in 1946. 

She married Donald “Donnie” Weedman on January 28, 1947.  To this union were born four children, Kenny, Kathy, Kevin, and Kent.  They lived and farmed near Amiret for many years.  Donnie and Eunice built a cabin on Lake Andrew, near Alexandria.  They would go there fishing often during the summer and winter months.  Eventually, they made this their home, coming back to Amiret to help “the boys” during the spring and fall crop season. 

Eunice was involved in the Ladies’ Group at the Tracy United Methodist Church.  She was a sub-postmistress for the Amiret Post Office, and she served on the Sodus Township Board.  When she moved to Alexandria, she became active in her new church community, the United Methodist Church, by joining the Ladies’ Group.  Eunice was a volunteer for the Douglas County Relay for Life.  She helped people who couldn’t drive get to the doctor’s appointments.  Eunice traveled the United States extensively attending Sea Bee (Navy) reunions and took an extended trip to Europe.  She had a special group of ladies she enjoyed having lunch or coffee with and going to water aerobics.  During her life, Eunice was not only a devoted mother, she was a loving partner and wife to Donnie, helping him with all aspects of farming from milking cows and raising chickens, to rock picking, bean walking, and tillage.  She made the best buns and always had the coffee on and bars ready for lunch. 

After Donnie passed away, Eunice helped Kenny and Kent farm for years by hauling grain during fall harvest or helping them move equipment from field to field, and making and delivering field lunches.  Donnie passed away on February 14, 1993.  Eunice remained in Alexandria until she moved to Marshall in 2008.

Survivors include her children: Kenny and Carol Weedman, Kathy Anderson, Kevin and Marilyn Weedman, and Kent and Denise Weedman; 9 grandchildren: Lisa Smith, Kim Patzlaff, Brian Weedman, Brad Anderson, Cola LaSota, Eric Weedman, Kurt Weedman, Rebecca Zick, and Michael Weedman; 19 great grandchildren; brother Melvin (Dorothy) Dunteman; sisters Edna (Jim) Regnier, Evelyn Schreier, Elaine (Dale) Kain, and Eleanor Sellman; and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Chris and Elsie Dunteman, husband Donald, son-in-law Bob Anderson, and infant granddaughter Lori Ann Weedman.
