Fern Crocker, 73

Memorial Service for Fern Crocker, 73, of Park Rapids, formerly of Balaton, will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Life Remembrance Center of Balaton (formerly Almlie-Horvath).  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Life Remembrance Center on Saturday.  Fern died on Monday, August 15, 2016 at her home.  Online condolences may be given at www.lrcmn.com.  The Life Remembrance Center of Balaton is caring for the family.

Fern Marie (Pittman) Crocker was born on July 19, 1943 in Worthington, Minnesota to Floyd Winston and Adalaine Mabel (Gintaut) Pittman.  She graduated Balaton High School in 1961 and went to Stewart School of Hairdressing. 

On September 3, 1966, Fern was united in marriage to Arthur Crocker in Centerville, South Dakota.  Following marriage, they lived in New Jersey, Arizona, Washington, Minnesota.  They always returned to Minnesota.  Her cabin in Park Rapids was definitely her “dream home” where she lived from 2010 until she passed away in August of 2016. 

Fern worked in the Healthcare industry as a nurse’s Aide/Long Term Care at Colonial Manor, Lakeview Senior Living, and other facilities over the years.  She was a member of Skandia Evangelical Free Church and was Librarian at the church.

Fern enjoyed gardening, reading, arts and crafts, sewing, embroidery, dancing, and all things country. She loved all animals, especially horses and time with family and friends.

Fern passed away peacefully at her residence in Park Rapids on August 15, 2016.

She is survived by her children David Crocker of Balaton and Jennifer (Steven) Williams of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren Lucas Smidt, Zackary Crocker, Arik Crocker, Tyler Williams and Brandon Williams; siblings Dorothy Murphy, Richard Pittman and Beverly Pittman.

 

Carol Peters, 92

 

Carol Rose Peters age 92 of Marshall, formerly of Fort Worth, TX and Olney, IL, passed away Saturday, July 23 at Heritage Point. Services were held on Saturday, July 30 at the Tracy United Methodist Church followed by interment at Bethel Cemetery, Custer Township, rural Garvin. Carol was born to Russell and Edna (Rusk) Shan, in Noble, IL, on April 8, 1924. She attended Noble Elementary and High School, graduating in 1942. Carol worked in St. Louis for a few years. As the war ended she married Glen Peters in 1945.  In 1950 their first child, Shan, was born, later followed by Melanie. As a stay-at-home mother, Carol was very involved with the Fort Worth League of Women Voters and the Ridglea Swimming Pool Assoc. when they lived in Texas. The family moved to Minnesota in 1962.

In the following years, Carol learned to ride hunt seat, enjoyed the girls’ horses and going to horse shows they competed in, loved antique collecting and playing bridge. Always interested in politics, she served as an election judge in Shoreview for several years. Carol liked meeting people when she was a member of WAMSO, and served on the gala ball committee. As a member of the Peace United Methodist Church, she was quite active. She particularly enjoyed the friendship circle in later years.

Carol is survived by her daughters, C. Shan Balmer and Melanie Pamp (Doug); grandchildren Ben Pamp (Kate), Kim Larson, Sarah Pamp Brakke (Dave); great-grandchildren Haidyn and Adali Larson; sister Janet Miller, Robinson, IL; brothers Jerry Shan (Marilyn), Noble, IL and Steve Shan (Arletta), Olney, IL; many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
