Derald Weinberg, 95

 

Derald D. Weinberg, 95, of Currie passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Prairie View Senior Living in Tracy.  Funeral Services were held at  11:00 AM on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton.  Interment with military honors was at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Dovray.  The Life Remembrance Center of Tracy is caring for the family.

Derald Duane Weinberg was born on March 13, 1921 to Henry and Bessie (Estes) Weinberg in Dickinson County, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Spirit Lake, Iowa.  In his late teens, he went to welding school and moved out to Washington where he worked as a ship fitter before enlisting into the United States Navy in 1943.  After his honorable discharge, Derald moved to the Currie area where he farmed. 

In 1958, Derald was united in marriage to Mildred Dumos Vershey at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray.  In 1986, he retired from farming but remained on the farm until moving into the O’Brien Court in Tracy and eventually into the Prairie View Senior Living.  He was a member and past deacon of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton and a member of the American Legion Post 632 in Dovray.  Derald enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, traveling in his motorhome and spending time with his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

On Friday, November 4, 2016, Derald passed away at the Prairie View Senior Living in Tracy at the age of 95.

He is survived by his children Sharon (Chuck) DeVetter of Tracy, Gwen (Gene) Irons of Mesa, AZ, Adelle (Don) Mosch of Mesa, AZ, Ted (Nancy) Vershey of Bovey and Tom Vershey of Bovey; 14 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister Nylene Shelstad of Madison; brother Estell Weinberg of Wabasso; and additional extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, three grandchildren Kimby Daniels, Shannon Mosch and Kory Vershey, one sister Vivian, three brothers Art, Bob and an infant brother.
