Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers July 28, 1955 — Veteran Art Marben, Tracy summer rec program director, is hitting at a blistering .433 clip to pace the Western Minnesota League in batting. He plays second base for Springfield.

July 29, 1965 — The Engineers eliminated Balaton from the first round of Southwestern Minny playoffs. Roger Flatequal started on the mound and Shorty Engel came on in the sixth to finish the job. Bill Pearson homered as part of the 13-6 win.

July 24, 1975 — The Tracy VFW junior baseball team defeated in its first game in the district tournament at Worthington Saturday, losing 13-6 to the Worthington team which went on to win the District 3 championship. In the fifth frame, Mike Mickelson and Jim Van Meveren walked and Scott Thomas got Tracy’s first hit, a single to score Mike. Neil Daniels, David Daniels and Joe Herder followed with hits.

July 25, 1985 — Tracy ripped out 12 hits to score 13 runs in a 13-3 win over Marshall in the sub-region championship. Kyhl Thompson had three hits, and Steve Goblirsch had two hits and four RBI for Tracy.

July 26, 1995 — Jeff Blegen won the championship flight of the annual Tracy-Tyler Golf Tournament held at the Tracy Country Club last Sunday. Blegen fired a 35-34=69 (three under par) to win the tournament Jeff Lau was second with 38-37=76, Duke Pogatchnik was third with 36-42=78 and Aaron Kopel finished fourth with 40-39=79.

July 27, 2005 — The Tracy VFW baseball team lost two games in the District 3 North playoffs to be eliminated. Tracy lost to Granite Falls on Thursday night 8-6 and to Redwood Falls on Saturday by a score of 12-4. Tracy ended the season with a 14-8 record. Chris Swenson, Taylor Rignell, David Schmidt and Brian Slager combined their pitching efforts to give up eight runs on 11 hits in the Granite Falls game. Brian Slager was two for four in the hitting department while David McCoy had three runs batted in and Kyle Fraser two.

July 29, 2015 — The Milroy Yankees have clinched a spot in the Region 11C amateur baseball tournament, after beating Raymond 3-1 Sunday and Sacred Heart 7-1. Nathan Deutz won a pitcher’s duel, scattering eight hits and fanning eight in a complete-game victory for Milroy in the first game. The game was scoreless until the Yanks’ Aaron Mathiowetz clubbed a two-run homer in the top of the eighth.
