A problem that dates back years and one that has been driving motorists in Tracy crazy could soon be nothing but a distant memory.
In an interview last week, Tracy City Administrator Jeff Carpenter said the City has gotten word that a project to smooth out the railroad crossing on Center St. will most likely take place in mid-August, just in time for the new school year to begin.
“I drove across it at 30 miles per hour, and it was a rude reminder of how bad those tracks are,” Carpenter said. “We have the County involved because it’s a county road, so there’s going to be some street work done on the approach to the tracks and past the tracks.”
Carpenter said the crossing was a topic of discussion even before he arrived in Tracy in 2017. Since then, there has been plenty of communication between the City and the railroad, but those discussions, before recently, did little to get the ball rolling.
He credited Tracy Community Development Director Tom Dobson for his persistence on the matter.
“Tom kind of took it on about five, six months ago, and he stayed on it,” Carpenter said.
