While it’s unclear when the bike path project will commence, it was made clear at Monday’s Tracy City Council meeting that things should be smoothing out relatively soon.

The council on Monday passed a resolution approving a quote for a bike path overlay. The City received two quotes for the project: one from Fuller Paving for $110,000 and one from M.R. Paving & Excavating, Inc. for $93,456.

Although the City is pleased with past work from both, the council accepted the low quote from M.R. Paving out of New Ulm. Its proposal was broken into two separate quotes: $73,656 for 1.5” of blacktop pavement and $19,800 for the milling of 90 cracks.

“It will happen this year — if it’s before labor Day or after, I’m not sure,” Tracy Public Works Director Shane Daniels said. “It would be nice to have it done before, but everybody’s really busy; it’s their prime season right now for asphalt.”

The City has $120,000 budgeted for the bike path. Since both quotes exceeding $50,000, council action was required.

M.R. did previous overlay work on North St. and also did the City’s sewer lining project three years ago.

Daniels said the City has put money aside for future maintenance after the work is done.

“You probably won’t have to do anything for at least three, four years after they do the overlay, so we’ve got a little bit of time to prepare,” Daniels said.

In other business Monday … • Lyle Noomen was sworn in on the Airport Commission. He is completing the late Rosemary’s Martin’s term, which ends in 2027 as Martin was re-appointed in March.

Also approved was the closure of Morgan on Aug. 31 for the piclkeball tournament and the use of the VMC that day if weather forces the tournament indoors.
