Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers Aug. 4, 1955 — Art Nybo paced a 1,150-1,029 Tracy win over Ruthton with 81 ringers in 200 shots. Tracy tossed 546 ringers to Ruthton’s 519 in the match.
Aug. 5, 1965 — Milroy eliminated Tracy’s Engineers from the playoffs with a 7-3 win. Tracy rallied with a double by Bill Kluevein and singles by Merle Mickelson and Dick Merkley, but Tracy made six errors in the game that proved too costly.
July 31, 1975 — The Engineers walloped Ivanhoe 14-3 in a playoff game. Bryce Pack and Gale Otto both pitched for Tracy. Chuck Goerish hit a two-RBI double, and Charlie Hayes pushed Goerish across with a double of his own.
Aug. 1, 1985 — A lost ball in the lights, in the final inning gave Redwood Falls a come from behind 4-3 win over the Tracy’s V.F.W. team at Redwood Saturday evening. Tracy scared first on a single by Paul West that scored Dean Van De Weile. Gary Bruns tripled and scored on Karl Campbell’s sacrifice fly as Tracy built a 3-1 lead.
Aug. 2, 1995 — The Milroy Jr. Legion Baseball Team won its opening district game tournament against Welcome by a 10-6 score. Andy Lanoue started on the mound for Milroy and pitched 1 2/3 innings. He was relieved by Andy Leonard who pitched the next 3 2/3 innings and got the win. Justin Schlemmer pitched the last 1 2/3 innings and recorded a save. The combine of pitchers held the Welcome attack to 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8.
Aug. 3, 2005 — It is the end of an era for the Panther girls’ basketball and volleyball programs. Long-time Panther Coach Paul Soupir has resigned from his position as co- head basketball coach. Back in 1986 when Tracy and Milroy paired, Milroy Coach Terry Culhane joined the Tracy-Milroy staff. He brought with him Paul Soupir as a volunteer assistant coach. Culhane coached both volleyball and basketball for T-M until the coaching job in Marshall opened up and he joined the Marshall coaching staff. Shorty Engel then returned as head basketball coach until the 1999-2000 season when Paul took over as head coach.
Aug. 5, 2015 — Jeff Knuth and Sara Macken were the winners in the Tracy Country Club’s annual couples’ tournament Sunday. Mike and Megan Schmitt took first in the Third Flight.
