The Milroy Irish advanced in the Region 10C playoffs with wins of 10–0 and 6-3 over Lakefield last Wednesday and Friday.
In Game 1, Tyler Maeyaert shut down the Frogs to the tune of four hits; he also struck out nine.
Tyler Peterson was the hero at the plate with three hits and three RBI. Anthony Dolan had two hits and two RBI. Dominic Dolan and Derek Smith both doubled, and Smith scored twice.
In the deciding game, the Irish found themselves down 2-1 after seven innings, and 3-1 after eight before rallying with two runs in the top of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
After a scoreless 10th inning, the Irish took control with a three-run 11th, and Craig Lasley pitched a scoreless bottom of the inning to preserve the victory.
The Irish had 13 hits — three more by Peterson, who also had four RBI, and two by Smith, who reached base four times. Irish rookie Trevor Smith got the win, going 10 innings. Craig Lasley pitched the final inning for the second straight game to earn the save. Six Irish were hit by a pitch.
The Irish opened second-round action Wednesday at home against Jackson. Game 2 will be at 7:30 p.m. in Jackson, and Game 3, if necessary, will be back in Milroy at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
