Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Aug. 11, 1955 — Don Johnson was runner-up in the 1st Flight at the Marshall Short Stop Tournament. Harold Mair was second in the 3rd Flight; Cuddy Thompson and Gay Stone finished one and two, respective, in the 4th Flight; and Al Zender, Jr. and Dick Ruthenbeck were second in the 5th and 6th flights, respectively.
Aug. 12, 1965 — Tracy’s Pee Wee baseball team coached by Vincent Wixon won the Sanborn Tournament title, beating Jeffers 2-1 and Westbrook 12-8. In the first game, Jeffers loaded the sacks, but pitcher John Glaser pitched out of trouble. Kurt Marben hit a double that scored the winning run.
Aug. 7, 1975 — Charlie Hayes hit a solo home run to provide the winning margin in a 3-2 win over Ivanhoe in the Southwest Minny playoffs. Todd Pack went the distance and fanned nine batters.
Aug. 8, 1985 — The Tracy VFW baseball team ended its season Thursday night at Milroy with a convincing 12-1 and 11-1 doubleheader romp over the Milroy Legion team. The games were postponed earlier in the year. Gary Bruns pitched the opening game win, with relief help from Doug Hatch. Hatch was 3-3 with four RBI. Karl Campbell and Darren Horner each had two RBI in the opener. Chuck Guerts was the losing pitcher for Milroy.
Aug. 9, 1995 — Pat Dolan’s Milroy Jr. Legion Team qualified for the State tournament by winning the District 2 title with three wins at Stark last week. Milroy won 9-3 over Heron Lake, and 6-2 and 6-1 over Luverne.
Aug. 10, 2005 — Milroy defeated Sleepy Eye 11-1 at Milroy in a playoff game. Andrew Van Loy pitched the complete game for Milroy and held Sleepy Eye to only one run on seven hits while striking out 10. Eric Dolan drove in four runs for the Yankees. Milroy also won 8-1 over New Ulm, as Nathan Deutz got the win on the mount. Joe Kemp had three hits.
