The Milroy Irish have a date with the Farming Flames in the opening round of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Class C Tournament.
The Irish (16-10) lost their best-of-three series 0-2 to the Windom Pirates last week, thereby earning the No. 2 seed out of Region 10C. Milroy, which last qualified for state in 2022, will take on the Flames at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Hutchinson.
The Flames, who play in the Stearns County South League, are the No. 2 seed out of Region 8C.
Farming’s last appearance at state was a year ago.
Milroy and Windom played two close contests, with the Pirates winning 4-3 on Aug. 6 and 3-1 last Friday.
Dominic Dolan, Tyler Peterson and Derek Smith each had two hits in Game 1, and Jackson draftee Justin Saufley threw seven strong innings, allowing just one earned run.
In Game 2, Windom broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth.
The Irish tied things up in the seventh when Anthony Dolan hustled home from third base after an an errant pick-off attempt.
However, the Pirates, scored two, two-out runs in the ninth. Former Panther Jake Tauer singled and scored in the inning.
The Irish had just three hits — by Dominic Dolan, Smith and Levi Maeyaert. Milroy hitters struck out 15 times.
