Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

Aug. 18, 1955 — Tracy High School’s marching band will make its second appearance at the Minnesota State Fair in a two-year period. Two years ago, the band won a trophy in competition with other bands that appeared at the fair. The band is under the direction of J.N. Rood. Other bands to participate this year are from Crookston, Wadena, Fosston, Fairmont, Jackson, Redwood Falls, Stillwater, Chaska and Mankato.

Aug. 19, 1965 — Allen Ludeman was top driver among the 20 competitors in the Tracy FFA safe-driving tractor contest held at the athletic field last Thursday evening. As winner of the senior division with a total of 2,385 points Ludeman is thus eligible to compete in the state contest at the Minnesota State Fair.

Aug. 14, 1975 — Mrs. Ruth Gordon was grand champion over-all at the 36th annual flower show sponsored by the Tracy United Methodist church women. Fifty people entered flowers in the show with a total of 145 entries. There were also nine children who entered 16 exhibits.

Aug. 15, 1985 — The Tracy High School Booster Club will have until the Sept. 24 school board meeting to raise money to maintain the sports of baseball and golf at Tracy High School. This decision came after Claire Hannasch, member of the club, asked for an extension. The deadline is needed because Oct. 15 is the final day to report spring sports decisions to the Miimesota State High School League. The deadline for 1985-86 fall sports has passed, leaving no tennis at THS this season.

Aug. 16, 1995 — Dale Krog has been named to the Tracy Hospital Board. Krog, an agent at the Tracy Insurance Agency, was appointed to the post by the Tracy City Council Monday night. He succeeds Rita Brand, who moved from town. Krog, a former city council member, was the only person to apply for the vacancy. Krog, who has been in the insurance business in Tracy since fall of 1968, is president of the Tracy Kiwanis Club.

Aug. 17, 2005 — A local group plans to renovate a vacant downtown Tracy building into a commercial bakery. Tracy Growth and Development has purchased the former P Plus Asian grocery building on Third St. Plans are to establish a fullservice “made from scratch” bakery in the remodeled building. “We hope to have it open sometime this fall,” said Deb Schenkoske, a Tracy Growth & Development board member. The new bakery, she said, will specialize in a complete line of breads, rolls, specialty breads, pies, cookies and cakes. The bakery will also offer decorated wedding and other specialty cakes.

Aug. 19, 2015 — A new Family Dollar store is opening in Tracy this week. Nicole Woodrich, the store’s manager, says the new Family Dollar will greet its first customers on Thursday, August 20, at 9 a.m. “We’re looking at this as our “soft opening,’” she said. The store’s “grand opening” is planned for the following Thursday, August 27. The 8,320 square-foot store is located on the north side of Hwy. 14, near the Eighth St. intersection.
