Highlights from area newspapers

Springfield Advance-Press Springfield’s 135-year-old pop factory building was recently razed. The lot was purchased in 1889 by a real estate developer by the name of John B. Schmid. Louise Vogel constructed the building and George Vogel started a pop factory in 1890.

Canby News

MN Rescue, a non-shelter, foster-based volunteer group is working to put an end to the stray cat problem in Canby and is asking the community for help.

Sentinel Tribune

The Westbrook City Council recently discussed the possibility of having to hire a full-time police officer with Police Chief Michael Hubin on personal leave. Cottonwood County is currently helping Westbrook by assisting with patrols.

Tyler Tribute

Pastor Wayde and Sharon Kenneke will be retiring at the end of the month and are moving to Arizona. The couple moved to Tyler in December 1991. The pastor’s last day of service will be Aug. 31, when new pastor Paul Hoffmeyer will be installed.
