Sept. 1, 1955 — Over 200 persons attended special services of the Balaton Methodist Church for its 75th anniversary. Services were held in the morning and afternoon and ladies of the church served dinner over the noon hour. Many ministers of the area, former pastors and church dignitaries were present. A highlight of the morning service was a tape recording made by Dr. Charles Ray Goff of Chicago in honor of the Rev. Paul Gardner, minister emeritus in Balaton.

Sept. 2, 1965 — Fire of unknown origin destroyed the cattle barn on the Floyd Hanson farm Sunday afternoon near Dovray. All baled straw and hay and four calves were also consumed in the blaze. An adjacent silo was also severely damaged. Members of the Currie and Dovray fire departments were called to the scene to contain the fire.

Aug. 28, 1975 — Twenty THS senior girls are up for Miss Tracy 1976 this year. Miss Tracy Lynn Schitz and Princess Gail Lindstrom will end their reign as Tracy royalty. The candidates will open the show by singing “I Am Woman.”

Aug. 29, 1985 — Tentative agreement has been reached on most items in the District 417 teacher contract talks, Supt. Harold Remme announced at Tuesday evening school board meeting. The tentative accord calls for an overall increase in faculty salaries of 2.7% for 1985-86, and 7.9% the following year. The proposed settlement would increase teacher compensation $40,000 the first year of the contract or an average of $700 a teacher. Year two would see a total package increase of $120,000 in the district or $2,100 a teacher.

Aug. 31, 2005 — It’s 100 candles this week for Minnwest Bank South in Tracy. The bank is celebrating its 100th year of operation under a bank charter that dates from 1905. “Our charter has been around a long time,” said President Ivan Van Essen. “We are proud to be here.” The bank plans a 100th anniversary open house Sept. 2. Minnwest Bank South traces its roots to a charter issued to Tracy State Bank in 1905. The original Tracy State Bank was located at 163 Third St.

Sept. 2, 2015 — The Wheels Across the Prairie Museum is celebrating its 30th Box Car Days this weekend with a trainload of special activities. A pork chop lunch, free Saturday admission and train rides for children, an antique tractor show, root beer floats, a visit from the Great Plains Zoo Mobile, and a Sunday morning prayer service are among the activities. This summer, the Tracy museum has been marking its 30th anniversary. “There have been so many people who have contributed to the success of the museum all these years,” reflects Jon Wendorff, museum board chair.
