Sept. 5, 1955 — A 1950 Ford tudor, at least four new tires, and engine block, a battery and the previous days receipts were stolen from Hemmingsen Auto Sales Co. on a Wednesday night — it was the second time in a month the auto dealer has been the target of thieves. The theft was discovered by Kenneth Burda, an employee.
Sept. 9, 1965 — Dr. Donald B. Hicks, local veterinarian, was appointed by the school board at a special meeting Tuesday night to fill the vacancy on the board occasioned by the death last week of Dr. R. R. Remsberg. Dr. Hicks’ appointive term will be for 10 months, expiring July 1, 1966. Then in the annual springtime school board election he will be subject to re-election for the year’s remaining unexpired term of Dr. Remsberg.

Sept. 4, 1976 — Three Tracyites and a Currie young man figured in the championships of the amateur arm wrestling tournament held in the Tracy armory Sunday as the many former champs helped stage the Box Car Day event. A good crowd of some 250 persons watched 63 entrants in various classifications grunt and groan in the newest and fast- rising sport and Miss Tracy, Mary Lynn Schmitz, awarded trophies after each championship match. Howard Greenman had the toughest task in the title run as he tackled Don Haugen from Wisconsin.

Sept. 6, 1985 — The Tracy FFA’s general livestock judging team took first place out of 76 schools at the Minnesota State Fair. Team members are seniors Paul Freeburg, Doug Edwards and Junior Karl Campbell. Freeburg placed fifth as an individual in the contest.

Sept. 6, 1995 — The Minnesota AFS organization has a local tie. A 1965 THS graduate, LeAnn Snyder, was recently named the State Director at the Genual States Office in St. Paul. Snyder has been responsible for finding AFS host families in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska for a number of years. She will now be responsible for host family recruitment in Minnesota, Iowa and North and South Dakota. “The AFS organization is restructuring on October 1 and I am very much looking forward to working with Southwest Minnesota AFS volunteers and meeting the new AFS students in the area,” said Snyder. Snyder is the daughter of longtime Tracy resident Myrtle Snyder and the late Jesse Snyder. A 1971 graduate of St. Cloud Stale University, Snyder spent five years employed as a recruiter for the Peace Corps before joining the AFS organization.

Sept. 7, 2005 — The delectable aromas of fried nut rolls and freshly bakedbread no longer waft from the Tracy Bakery ovens at 187 Third St. this week. But efforts are underway to open a new bakery across the street. Ray Hay, who has leased and operated the Tracy Bakery since 2000, fired up the bakery’s ovens for the last time Saturday. He plans to work for a new bakery being started by Tracy Growth and Development in the former P Plus Grocery building. “We hope to have the new bakery open by Nov. 1,” said Deb Schenkoske, a Tracy Growth & Development board member.
Sept. 9, 2015 — The Miss Tracy torch has passed to Sara Stoneberg. Continuing a Tracy Box Car Days tradition that began in 1927, Sara Stoneberg was selected as Miss Tracy 2016 Sunday. Emily Munson was named First Runner-up, with Georgina Canto receiving Second Runner-up honors.
