Friends of the Casey Jones Trail to host special bike ride

The Friends of the Casey Jones Trail invite the public to join a unique biking experience titled titled “Bike Ride Through History & Prairie Management,” on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. The event will begin and end at the End-O-Line Railroad Museum in Currie.

The guided ride will follow the Casey Jones State Trail, with engaging stops along the way that highlight the rich history and natural landscapes of the Lake Shetek area.

Riders will learn about the glacial formation of the land, early Native peoples and their connection to the prairie, European settlement in the 1860s, and modern-day prairie and water management efforts.

Stops include Trail’s Edge, the Shetek Monument, prairie restoration sites, and the Currie Dam overlook.

“Participants will not only enjoy the beauty of the trail but also gain a deeper understanding of how this region has been shaped by both nature and people,” said Roseann Schauer, Lake Shetek State Park.

The ride is family-friendly, with discussions tailored to be engaging for all ages. Riders are asked to bring their own bicycle, helmet, and water.
