Wheels Across the Prairie invites ideas from public

What ideas do you have for new programs at the Wheels Across the Prairie Heritage Center?

What do you like at the Wheels?

What could Wheels improve upon?

Wheels Across the Prairie board members are rolling out the welcome mat for a Sunday, Sept. 14, planning meeting, in order to get answers to those questions from the public.

“Where are we going?” asks Dorothy Rademacher, Wheels Across the Prairie board president. “We want to know what kind of goals people want the Wheels to pursue.” The strategic planning session, she adds, will be a first step for the board in setting goals for 2026.

The event is set from 4-8 p.m. at the Tracy United Methodist Church. The gathering will combine both small group discussions and large group presentations. Lunch will be served.

Information will be presented about Wheels Across the Prairie’s on-going projects, so the meeting will be ideal for anyone wanting to learn more about Wheels Across the Prairie. All interested people are invited.

The Wheels Across the Prairie Heritage Center this summer marked the 40th anniversary of its June, 1985, opening. Its signature attraction is a four-unit freight train. Other exhibit buildings include Main Barn, C&NW depot, Pamp Barn, Helmberger-Johnston building, Monroe Town Hall, St. Mark’s Church, barbershop, blacksmith shop, Norwegian hyte, Moline general store, military heritage building, cottage, summer kitchen, post office, RR section foreman’s house, country school, and 1860s log cabin. An array of American flags was added last summer.
