Fourth-graders attend educational field day

Tracy Area fourth-grade students recently spent a day learning about farm and electrical safety, ATV safety, plant growth, pollinators, and the food supply at the University of Minnesota Southwest Research and Outreach Center near Lamberton recently.

Over 700 third- and fourthgrade students from 17 different schools participated in Cottonwood County 4-H’s annual Fall Elementary Field Day, Sept. 8-11. The field day included hands-on learning opportunities like making foam pizzas to learn about food supply, handling various snakes, and assembling soybean “plant pals.”

Agencies/ organizations that presented were the Cottonwood County Soil & Water Conservation District, Cottonwood County USDAFarm Service Agency, South Central Electric, East River Coop, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Zoo Man, Farm Bureau and Cottonwood County 4-H. The field day also utilized FFA members from Westbrook Walnut Grove, Redwood Valley, Wabasso and Red Rock Central high schools. The FFA students helped lead the farm safety lessons with representatives from Farm Bureau.
