Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Sept. 29, 1955 — Roger Kerr and Milo Stevens both scored touchdowns in a 13-7 Homecoming win over Springfield.
Sept. 30, 1965 — Chuck Peterson, Tracy high school teacher and golf instructor, nosed out Soph Lund, Tyler band instructor, in Saturday’s annual District 9 Schoolmen’s golf tournament at the local golf course.
Sept. 25, 1975 — The Walnut Grove Loggers lost in overtime for the second straight week, this time 8-6 to Lamberton. Bruce Comnick scored the Loggers’ lone touchdown.
Sept. 26, 1985 — The Scrappers put things together Tuesday night as they downed Canby in three straight games: 15-6, 15-8 and 15-13. Head coach Shorty Engel said the squad continues to improve and with a few more wins, their confidence should grow, too. Julie West finished the game hitting 29 of 29 serves, while Shari Heidebrink was 10 for 10.
Sept. 27, 1995 — Tracy-Milroy upended the Marshall Tigers 3-0 at Tracy. The game scores were 15-9, 15-8 and 15-7. The win improved the T-M season record to 13-3. Chris Brink led the Panthers in hitting with 14 kills, Kris DeRuyck had 11 and Julia Muedeking 8.
Sept. 28, 2005 — The Panther girls’ cross country team finished 31st in the Maroon Division at the Roy Griak Invitational in the Twin Cities. Individual results were: 145) Jen Vroman, 24:22; 155) Stacy LaVoy, 24:42; 169) Rachel Stobb, 25:25; 174) Jessica Mason, 25:49; 177) Celia Brockway, 25:55; 194) Jessica Coulter, 28:11.
Sept. 30, 2015 — The Panther volleyball team won 12-straight sets and six matches to win the Burnsville Class A Showcase Friday and Saturday. Three Panthers earned all-tournament honors: junior setter Gabbie Gervais, and sophomore hitters Sydney Lanoue and Sidney Karbo.
