Oct. 13, 1955 — Frank Holstein put his top-quality boars and gilts on the auction block at a sale on his farm last Friday evening. The biggest eye-catcher for the buyers was Superfeature, Junior and Grand Champion at the Minnesota State Fair. The hefty boar sold to Burt Broek and Son hog breeders from Sioux Center, Iowa, for an even $3,000. Holstein’s number two boar drew $1,025 from Greg Vaske of Dyersville, Iowa.

Oct. 14, 1965 — Currie hunter Clinton Johnson bagged a rare white moose in Canada. Others in the party were Don Cohrs, Kenny Wahl, Roger and Wes Lindstrom, Mike Uhlenhopp and Wally Winters.

Oct. 9, 1975 — Dick Donaldson, who now serves as president of the Tracy City Council, told the Headlight-Herald Wednesday morning that he will file for mayor. Incumbent mayor Dennis DeBlieck also announced Wednesday morning that he will seek a regular seat on the city council. DeBlieck has served as mayor since April 1974.

Oct. 10, 1985 — The Balaton Press Tribune Record last week reported pairing talks between Balaton and Ruthton school districts came to a halt— and Ruthton now will pursue possible pairing with the Russell-Tyler school districts. The three-way school pairing proposal now goes before the respective boards — a plan with K-4 students in Ruthton, 5-8 in Russell, and 9-12 in Tyler.

Oct. 11, 1995 — Two certified public accountants have purchased Nelda’s Tax Service of Tracy. The new owners arc Keith Kinner of Lake Benton and Richard Holmberg, who lives on Lake Shetek. The change became effective Oct. 1. The accounting office will continue to be located in the rear of the Korner Krafts building on main street.

Oct. 12, 2005 — Tracy City Council members met in closed session Monday night to discuss the possibility of making an offer to buy at least a portion of the former Central Livestock property in South Tracy. In the past, council members have expressed interest in obtaining a portion of the 30-acre parcel for the construction of a drainage ditch.

Oct. 14, 2015 — Tracy City Administrator Mike Votca has been instructed to seek quotes for razing the vacant Masonic Temple building. The directive from the Tracy City Council doesn’t necessarily mean the Masonic building will be demolished. But council members indicated Monday that they need more information before deciding the building’s fate.
