According to a news release from the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Duane Lloyd Swanson, a level 3 registered sex offender, was scheduled to relocate to Walnut Grove on Thursday, Oct. 16.
A Community Notification Meeting was held Oct. 15 in Walnut Grove, where representatives from the Department of Corrections and the Sheriff’s Office provided safety information and answered questions from residents. More on this story will be published in the Oct. 22 edition of the Tracy Area Headlight Herald. Swanson was convicted of sexual offenses involving a teenaged male and having possession of child sexual abuse material.

His relocation is being shared pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 244.052 and 244.253D, which allow law enforcement to inform the public of registrants’ relocation to enhance community safety.
The Sheriff’s Office said the notification is intended to raise awareness, not incite fear, and reminded residents to report any criminal activity to 911.
According to the notification of relocation, from 2003 -2004, Swanson engaged in recurring incidents of sexual contact, including touch, against a known teenaged male. Swanson used friendliness and attention to create a relationship of trust and used that relationship to attain and exploit unmonitored contact.
He was also charged with using gift giving and providing the victim with mood-altering substances in an effort to maintain control. Subsequently, Swanson was found in possession of child sexual abuse material.
