Oct. 20, 1955 — Construction on two more new business buildings will get under-way with continuation of favorable weather. The Peterson Construction Co. staked out the new 40x72 Red Rooster cafe, dining room and service station yesterday. Footings will be laid and construction carried on as long as weather holds. The building will be located between the Brekken and Dempsey implement shops on Highway 14. George Smith, meanwhile, has let a contract to Elmer Stelter for his new radio and television shop on Fourth street between the Headlight-Herald and the Miningas Co. Footings for the 42x 72 structure are expected to be put in early next week. The building will also include living quarters for the Smiths.

Oct. 21, 1965 — Carl A. Johnson was sentenced to 25 years for the murder of Judith Brown and Perne Silvernale in Mankato. He had previously pleaded innocent by reason of insanity. An investigation showed that Johnson had been beaten prior to the tragedy and circumstances put him beyond the point of self-control or premeditation.
Obituaries: Albery Pommier, Ed Van de Velde Oct. 16, 1975 — A Milroy airman, 1st Lt. James A. Moudry, recently was awarded his silver wings at Columbus Air Force Base. Columbus, Miss., after completing his pilot training. Lieutenant Moudry, son of Mrs. Catherine Moudry of rural Milroy, is now assigned to the Andersen AFB, Guam, for duty with a unit of the strategic air command.

Oct. 17, 1985 — Jim Miller will be stepping down as manager of the Tracy Chamber of Commerce at the end of this year. The resignation, submitted to the Chamber’s board of directors last week, is effective Dec. 31 of this year. Miller plans to open his own accounting business in Tracy. “It is with mixed emotions that I will be leaving the Chamber,” Miller commented. “It has been a real rewarding experience for me. Working with the Chamber members on a daily basis has given me a real insight into the business world.”

Oct. 18, 1995 — Construction is underway for a 3,600 square-foot addition onto the east side of Mediterranean Club in Tracy. Block was laid last week, and concrete for the floor was being poured Monday. Scheduled completion date for the 50x72foot banquet facility is mid-January. “Our first event is the Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet,” said Mediterranean Owner Tom Morin. The Mediterranean expansion is designed to accommodate large banquets, group meetings and wedding dances that Tracy lost when the Tracy Servicemen’s Center closed last winter.

Oct. 19, 2005 — The Tracy Chamber of Commerce is again looking for an executive director. Jason Swanson, who assumed the job in mid-September, sent an e-mail to Chamber board members Thursday, announcing his resignation. His last day on the job with the Chamber is Oct. 28. Swanson, 23, wrote that he had accepted an offer to manage the Country View Living Estates in Walnut Grove.

Oct. 21, 2015 — A rural Balaton woman will be Tracy’s new economic development director. Tara Onken feels that the new position is a perfect fit for her interests and skills. “I really love small towns, this is where I grew up. It’s exciting to be involved in work that helps our rural areas grow and be prosperous,” Onken said. She expects to begin her new Tracy EDA duties by mid-November. Onken is currently the part-time EDA director in Balaton. She expects to continue her Balaton responsibilities, which entail about 10 hours each month.
