Making Headlight headlines in .... 2011

MAKING ‘HEADLIGHT’ HEADLINES IN…

2011

A look at interesting copy that grabbed our attention “back in the day.”

Nelson bids farewell

For the first time in 10 years, Phil Nelson didn’t have a seat at the Lyon County Board of Commissioner’s table when the group met Tuesday.

But the longtime rural Tracy farmer had a smile on his face when asked about Rick Anderson’s election to his former position as Third District Lyon County Commissioner.

“I lost. He won. I’m 78 years old and I’m probably the winner.”

Later this month, Nelson and his wife, Pat, plan to “follow the geese” south. After visiting their daughter’s family in Denver and checking out the National Western stock show, the Nelsons plan a leisurely swing through New Mexico and Texas.

“My wife has been waiting 10 years to travel. Now we’ll have some time,” Nelson says.

At a retirement reception last month, Nelson quipped that he needs “some mechanical work done to the rear end of a recliner.”

Nelson feels good about his 10-year stint as a commissioner. “I enjoyed it and tried to do a good job.” He wishes Anderson well, but declines to offer any parting advice.

“He’ll have to make his own decisions,” he quipped.
