Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers Oct. 27, 1955 — Cornerstonelaying ceremonies for the new St. Mary’s parochial school and confirmation services for 136 children and adults will be held today, Thursday, at St. Mary’s Catholic church. Most Rev. Bishop James Byrne, auxiliary bishop of St. Paul, will officiate at both ceremonies, with laying of the cornerstone set for 2:30 p.m. at the main entrance of the new school building. Fourth degree Knights of Colunbus will provide an honor guard to the bishop.

Oct. 28, 1965 — Twentynine Lyon county men will comprise the November draft call under the stepped-up military induction program which in the immediate future may involve married men. Clerk of the county board has received no quota for December yet, but if the reserve of single men is short of meeting the demands, men between 19-26 married prior to Aug. 26 may face induction starling in December.

Oct. 24, 1985 — How does it feel to be celebrating your 30th year in business? Ask Howard Enderson, founder of Enderson’s Clothing in Tracy. “Well, it sure doesn’t seem possible. Sometimes it feels like I just started, time goes by so fast.” Enderson came to Tracy from Worthington, where he had been employed in a clothing store before he decided to start his own business. “I even worked in a grocery store before that,” he recalled.
Obituaries: Clarence Larson, Harold Wadhams, Phyllis Williams, Claude Howe Oct. 25, 1995 — A rash of vandalism has been reported to the Tracy Police Department this week. Acts against private property and vehicles was committed on Saturday night and reports are still coming in early in the week. Three vehicles parked at 336 Harvey Street had been scratched or “keyed” on the drivers side. Another report came from 272 Elm Street that a car parked around the corner on Second Street East had been keyed down the entire driver’s side. An employee working the night shift at the Tracy Nursing Home came out to find her parked vehicle had been scratched on both doors on the driver’s side and the passenger door on the other side of the car.

Oct. 26, 2005 — Although construction has fallen behind the schedule established this summer, substantial completion of the Tracy Aquatic Center is still expected this fall. A revised construction schedule targets Nov. 18 as the “substantial completion” date for the aquatic center repairs. The pool is to be filled with water next month to allow for the testing of mechanical systems. Dec. 2 is considered the “semi- final” date for aquatic center repairs, with the “final completion” projected for May 1, 2006. In a construction schedule announced in July, final completion was targeted by the end of October.
Oct. 28, 2015 — It’s hard to top what took place at the Tracy Airport last week. With the help of a 100-foot Amiret Electric boom truck, a new airport beacon was hoisted into place atop a 55- foot pole. The new rotating beacon has two, 400-watt Hali-Brite lights, an electric motor, and an electric heater. “(A pilot) should be able to see this light all the way from Rochester on a clear night,” says Dick Werner, owner of Werner Electric, Marshall, the firm that installed the beacon.
