Referenda pass in MCC School District, fails in Marshall

By 38 votes, residents of the Murray County Central School District narrowly passed its referendum to revoke the School District’s existing referendum revenue authorization of $625.69 per pupil and to replace that authorization with a new authorization of $1,310.69 per pupil, subject to an annual increase at the rate of inflation, increasing the School District’s general education revenue by $685 per pupil, subject to an annual increase at the rate of inflation.

The proposed new referendum revenue authorization will be first levied in 2025 for taxes payable in 2026 and applicable for 10 years unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law.

The vote was 548 yes and 510 no.

• Also, the Marshall School District’s $2 million, 10-year operating referendum failed by a vote of 1,647-1,415. If passed, the increase in general education revenue would’ve been $765 per pupil.
