Cmty. center design reviewed by city council

The Tracy City Council took the next step in the process for the Tracy Community Center with the passage of resolution 2025-89, approval of final plans & specifications and authorization of publication to advertise for bids for the Community Center on a 5-1 vote, with councilman Dave Tiegs casting the dissenting vote.

Prior to the vote, the council received a review of the design meeting held on Nov. 7 with the Community Center Workforce Group.

The design will include two meetings rooms, one set more as a gathering space with tables and chairs which also includes an open counter to the attached kitchen. The other meeting room was presented as a presentation room with more chairs. A hallway from the front door would bring you to each of the rooms either on the right of left of the building. In addition, another door will be added to each side of the building for safety. The kitchen will not be a commercial kitchen but prepared food can be brought in and served.

In addition to the internal projects, the sewer and water lines will be replaced to the building.

Prior to the meeting, the council toured the new airport hangar. During the meeting, the council heard an update on the airport projects. Currently, the T-hanger is 96% complete. The taxi lane and building slab is 93% complete with the paving complete and grant closeout work begun.

The runway reconstruction is 87% complete and the runway planning update and field studies are 62% complete.

In other council news …

• The council approved the street closure for the Tracy Area Chamber of Commerce Parade on Lights on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m.

• The council heard form three residents of Cedar Lane Park, but owner Mike Grover was not present and has not been in contact with City Administrator Jeff Carpenter or Community Development Director Tom Dobson. Due to the fact that the County’s deadline for a storm shelter plan presented by the owner and not residents will pass prior to the next council meeting, the council tabled discussion on Cedar Lane until the County’s deadline has passed.
