Lights out! More than 7,500 Xcel customers lose power Monday

The City of Tracy, along with a number of towns in southwest Minnesota, including Slayton, Garvin and Pipestone, were left in the dark for about one-half hour Monday afternoon.

Power in Tracy was lost about 3:10 Monday afternoon, and shortly after, many thought it wouldn’t return until 5:30-6 p.m. However, the outage lasted just about 30 minutes.

According to Xcel Energy, the outage was the result of an equipment issue on an Xcel transmission system near Chandler, affecting some 7,600 customers. Xcel said its crews responded safely and quickly to restore power to all customers.

TRACY FOOD PRIDE was forced to close for a time because of Monday’s power outage. Thankfully, instead of having to wait up to two hours to reopen, the store was able to welcome in customers again in about one-half hour. Photo / Per Peterson
