The Wheels Across the Prairie Board of Directors held a strategic planning session seeking community input on Nov. 17, with the words sustainable, partnerships, and enrichment expressed.
The planning session, facilitated by Kathryn Leyes, University of Minnesota regional extension agent focused on planning for the upcoming 2026 improvement and campus addition projects.
Divided into three working groups the 17 participants identified these three projects: completing the interior of the section house, reducing the amount of needed volunteer hours while enhancing the campus grounds with maintenance free benches for guest seating and expanded landscaping and seeding of natural prairie grasses and flowers.
Also discussed was the potential for enlisting Tracy Area High School students in some aspects of the History Center’s daily activities/needs.
Engaging this segment of the community, truly our future historians, is hoped will not only provide additional volunteers to work together with present staff and volunteers to complete ongoing tasks, but will help develop a sense of commitment to the community’s history for generations to come.
As per the “Wheels” organizational structure, the yearend membership campaign is underway. Thanks were expressed to those members who have already renewed their yearly membership with new members welcomed and encouraged to become a part of this ongoing effort to preserve the history of not only the city of Tracy but the entire surrounding area.
