Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

Dec. 1, 1955 — Another long-time rural mail carrier decide to call it a day this week after years of service. He is Otis Haugen, who began serving rural routes here in 1918. Haugen retirement coincides with that of Jim Moran, who quit last week.

Dec. 2, 1965 — Mr. and Mrs. Edson Starr are the new owners of the Tracy Bowl, effective yesterday, taking over the establishment from Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wisherd who operated the Morgan street recreation place the past four years. The Starrs were previous owners of the Tracy Bowl, running it from 1958 to 1961 when they sold it to the Wisherds. The Starrs only recently sold the Montgomery Ward agency store here to Mr. and Mrs. Cy Sanders.

Obituaries: Mrs. Roy Lindsay

Nov. 27, 1975 — Sixthgrader Geraldine Bartlett of Tracy has won first prize in a state wide poster contest sponsored by the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. She and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bartlett, Tracy, will be guests at a banquet as part of the association’s 39th annual convention on Sunday, Nov. 30 in Marshall. All sixthgrade students in the state were eligible to participate in the poster contest which was held this fall. Miss Bartlett first won the Lyon County division, then the Area 5 contest and later was named the state winner.

Nov. 26, 1985 — Tom Hook, son on Eugene Hook of rural Tracy, was on the Fort Collins Colorado State University team that rated fifth in the 85th annual American Royal Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest held recently in Kansas City. The student teams represent major college and universities from across the United States in the judging of cattle, hogs and sheep. Oklahoma State University captured first place with 4,696 points out of a possible 5,000.

Nov. 29, 1995 — “Tailoring and Tans of Gold” is the name of a new business opening soon in Downtown Tracy. Nancy Engen plans to open her business on Dec. 18 in the Ford Real Estate building. The business will take in clothing for alterations, repairs and zipper replacements. A tanning bed will offered elsewhere in the shop. Dar Ford and Lorraine Radke of Ford Real Estate have announced plans to close the real estate office after Dec. 15. Engen has been looking for a location to open a business in Tracy for quite some time. About 12 years ago, she ran a tailoring business in Marshall.

2005 — N/A Dec. 2, 2015 — City Administrator Mike Votca told council members last week that construction on the Juwi Solar project northwest of Tracy will begin as scheduled next spring. The administrator said that at a Nov. 6 pre-construction meeting, Juwi Inc. officials indicated that they would start construction in May. Work is expected to continue through September. The Boulder, Colorado-based company announced plans last spring to develop a 24.75 megawatt solar farm on a 200-acre site east of the Highline Road. As many as 100 construction workers are expected to be on the site. Lyon County has approved a conditional use permit for the project.
