Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Dec. 8, 1955 — A giant Pipestone team handed Coach Nels Schjei’s Tracy High School basketball team its second defeat Friday night by staging a second half rally for a 65-36 win. Dan Welsh, the lone senior on the team, led the Scrappers in points with 15.
Dec 9. 1965 — Tracy had a 10-point deficit, but once again rallied for a win, this time nipping Appleton, 24-21. Getting late wins were Dave Van Meveren, Keith Averill and Brian Ludeman.
Dec. 4, 1975 — Deb Johns and Lori Stensgaard scored 14 and 12 respectively in leading the Tracy High School girls to a 30-19 basketball win over Canby here.
Dec. 10, 1985 — The Tracy Scrappers began their quest for the Southern Sioux Conference title Friday night with an 89-58 thrashing of Slayton on the Wildcats’ home floor. The Scrappers, who displayed a very balanced offensive attack, raised their record to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the conference. The five Tracy starters all finished the game in double figures, led by Mickelson’s 18 points. Junior John Griffith was next in line with 16 counters, followed by Dru Larson with 13, Mark Peterson with 11, and David Christians with 10.
Dec. 6, 1995 — The Panther boys got their basketball season off on a winning note Friday, defeating Murray County Central 45-28 at Slayton. Senior Post Cory Buysse nailed a field goal and Scott Zick followed with two more baskets as the Panthers jumped off to a 6-1 lead. T-M was never seriously threatened after that, as the Panthers went on to lead 12-5 at the first quarter. They held that margin with an 18-11 halftime lead, increased it to 33-16 at the three quarter mark and then held on for the 45-28 final score.
Dec. 7, 2005 — The Panther girls’ basketball team opened the 2005-06 season with a 54-47 win over Jackson County Central at Tracy last Friday night. Alyssa Kirk scored 22 points, had four rebounds, seven steals and two assists to lead the Panthers. Ashlee Domine had 15 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals, Emily Miller had nine points and six rebounds, Molly Miller had five points and two assists, Ashley Kirk two points and two steals and Krysta Tholen one point, four rebounds, six steals and four assists.
