Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Dec. 13, 1955 — Slayton’s hotshooting Wildcats literally “poured it on” Friday night to hand the Tracy quint its third straight setback by a 66-36 count. The bright spot for the Scrappers was the center play of Jeb Monge, who hit eight fielders in 18 attempts and played a good overall floor game.
Dec. 16, 1965 — Tracy high school’s Dale Hatch-led basketball team needed its comeback power Saturday night to subdue a stubborn Slayton team 55-51 in a thriller in the municipal building here. Steve Vogel, who shows some good moves, and Glen Withrow paced Tracy scoring with 10 points apiece.
Dec. 11, 1975 — Lori Stensgaard’s two free throws with 31 seconds remaining in the game lifted Tracy to a 28-27 girls basketball victory game Tuesday night. Teammate Deb Johns led all scorers with five field goals and two from the gift line for 12 points.
Dec. 17, 1985 — Dave Christian, Tracy’s 6-foot-5 big man, played a game worthy of his stature, scoring 21 points to lead the Scrappers to a 78-42 win over Southern Sioux Conference rival Minneota. John Griffith added 15 points, and Doug Hatch swished the nets for 12 points.
Dec. 13, 1995 — The Panther Boys Basketball Team got their second win of the season with a victory over Balaton at Balaton Tuesday night by a score of 61-34. The win raised the Panther’s record to 2-1 for the season. Luke Ostgaard led the Panther scoring with 15 points. He was followed by Brad Hengel, Scott Zick and Jared Peterreins with nine each.
Dec. 14, 2005 — The Panther wrestling team improved to 5-0 on the year at the Westbrook Triangular last Thursday. Tracy/Milroy/Balaton beat Pipestone 36-15 and Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central 69-9. The action left the Panthers with three undefeated wrestlers: Zach Campbell at 4-0, and Cole Cooreman and Derek Evans at 5-0.
Dec. 16, 2015 — Josh Kirk has been named to the third team of the Associated Press All-State football team. The 6-2, 180-pound senior caught 57 passes for 1,321 yards and 14 touchdowns this fall for the Panthers. Kirk also intercepted six passes, returned a kick for a touchdown, and scored two rushing touchdowns. During his high school career, Kirk had 170 catches for 2,879 yards, and 37 touchdowns.
