Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

Dec. 13, 1955 — Clifford “Red” Summers, retired Tracy railroad man, won the 1955 Chevrolet given away by Jenkins Supermarket last Saturday. Registration for the big prize has been going on for the past 14 weeks. Each weekend, 10 names were drawn from the total number of registrants and set aside for the final drawing. Then on Saturday, 10 names were picked from the semifinalists and from these final 10, Summers registration slip was plucked.

Dec. 16, 1965 — Permanent officers were elected and several new members joined the newly-formed Jaycees organization at a meeting in the bank’s community room Tuesday night. Charter members named were John Kosse, president; Frank Voges, vice-president; and Jerry Landuyt, state director. New members joining were Dick Maertens, Don Bennett, Davie Bosacker, Terry Nackerud, Dennis DeBlieck and Harold Halfmann.

Dec. 11, 1975 — Faced with an inability to adequately handle snow removal because of an equipment shortage, the Tracy City Council will now let voters have their say on whether or not the problem continues. The council has ordered a special bond issue election for Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1976. It will be a simple question for Tracy voters to answer. Boiled down, it will read: “Should the City of Tracy spend $10,000 for new snow removal equipment.

Dec. 17, 1985 — The newlyestablished Tracy Cable Television Commission held its first meeting last week. One of the purposes of the commission is to help monitor and document citizen complains on television reception. Board members are Connie Drever, Winston Peterson, Gwen Johnson, Gayle Pearson and Linda Pope. The board, established by the city council, will act as a liason between cable customers and the cable company.

Dec. 13, 1995 — An open house is planned next week at the ECCO Developmental Achievement Center in Downtown Tracy. A lunch of BBQs, potato chips and apple cider will be served. The public is invited. The purpose of the open house is to draw attention to ECCO’s new location in the former People’s Natural Gas building on 4th Street. ECCO opened operations in Tracy in February 1994 in the Tracy Masonic Building. ECCO moved to the People’s Gas building in November of this year after the completion of a remodeling project.

Dec. 14, 2005 — The Panther volleyball program has lost its head coach and assistant coach. The resignations of head coach Katie Gervais and assistant coach Beth Lanoue were accepted Monday. “This really saddens me,” Superintendent David Marlette said as the District 417 school board considered Gervais’ resignation. “She’s really a good coach. She has built a very good program.” In her letter of resignation, Gervais cited several reasons for leaving the volleyball program, including her desire to spend more time with her family. She also cited issues with athletes and parents as a reason for her resignation. Under Gervais’ seven-year head coaching tenure, the Panther volleyball team won two state championships, in 2001 and 2004.

Dec. 16, 2015 — CHS will be supplying corn to Highwater Ethanol beginning next summer. Brian Kletscher, Highwater Ethanol CEO, says that the new contract will begin on July 27, 2016. Meadowlands Cooperative, based in Lamberton, has been supplying corn to Highwater Ethanol since the plant began operations in 2009. “We’ve had a fabulous working relationship with Meadowlands,” said Kletscher. But he said Highwater’s management had talked with both Meadowlands and CHS about a new corn contract, and had chosen to go with CHS.
