The Milroy School Board approved a resolution setting its 2025 levy, payable in 2026, at $351,763.83 at its regular meeting Monday night. The levy is an 11.76% decrease and marks the third straight year of a levy decrease. The levy decreased 7.2% last year and 2.3% the year before. The levies amount supports the federal fund (88%), the debt services (6%) and the community services fund (5%).
The General Fund continues to be the largest fund for the school at $311,182.12. However, it is a 12.52% decrease over last year. The Community Service Fund is at $18,961.39, while the General Debt Service is at $21,620.32.
The General Fund’s largest revenue source continues to be state sources (64%), followed by local property tax levies (31%), federal sources (3%) and other local and county revenues (3%).
The General Fund expenses include regular instruction (47.18%), administration (12.57%), site and buildings (11.32%), special education (8.89%) pupil support (7.1%) district support services (6.2%), fiscal and other (4.45%) and instructional support (2.29%).
In other board news …
• The board approved meeting dates for 2026: Jan. 12 (opening of building bids), Feb. 9, March 16, April 20, May 18, June 15 and June 29 (if needed).
• The board accepted the resignation of Kacie Schaeffer-Miller.
• Supt. John Willey reported that classes have had to be cancelled twice this month due to the boiler not working. The first was Dec. 1 and the second was Dec. 15. E-learning days were not used, but Willey said there are plenty of contact minutes with the students in the schedule, and he wanted to save those e-learning days for this winter if needed.
