It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Prairie View! Residents enjoyed a week packed with music, visitors, crafts, and heartfelt surprises as the holiday season continues to bring joy to everyone in the community. The week began on Sunday when Shannon Benson’s piano students performed a delightful Christmas recital. Their cheerful melodies filled the halls and brought smiles to every face as residents clapped along to familiar carols.
Monday brought one of the residents’ favorite traditions, Bingo Day, with Delores proudly taking home the win. On Tuesday morning, the ladies gathered for a bit of pampering as they trimmed, filed and painted their nails. During the activity, a group of caring visitors from St. Mary’s Catholic Church stopped by to hand-deliver thoughtful Christmas gifts to every resident. The joy continued in the afternoon with a friendly round of L-R-C dice, full of laughter and light-hearted competition.
Midweek celebrations continued Wednesday, starting with Chapel led by Deb and Catholic Communion and Rosary led by Marianne B. Later that afternoon, residents got creative, working together to make Christmas wreaths to decorate their rooms and common areas. The day ended on a high note when the Youth Group from the Church of Christ filled the building with the sound of Christmas caroling, spreading warmth and cheer to everyone before supper.
Thursday was another day to remember. The morning began with a lively game of ping pong, followed by another round of holiday generosity in the afternoon. Representatives from “Help Tuck Them In” and the Lutheran Ladies arrived with Christmas blankets, new pillows, and festive pillowcases for each resident. Afterward, everyone enjoyed a few rounds of floor dice and snacked on a meat and cheese tray provided by the organizations.
The week concluded on a joyful note Friday, when Pre-K and Kindergarten students from Tracy Elementary performed their Christmas concert for the residents. Their sweet voices and handmade ornament gifts brought smiles and even a few happy tears. After the children left, residents gathered once more for a round of Christmas Bingo, ending the week with plenty of laughter and holiday spirit.
The Prairie View community would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who helped make this week so special.
Thank you, Rose Mary Hemmingson, Mary Ann Ankrum, Marianne Boerboom, LouAnn Engel, and Bonnie Boerboom for the beautiful Catholic Christmas gifts. Your kindness and thoughtfulness brightened the residents’ spirits in such a meaningful way.
We also wish to thank the students and youth groups who shared their wonderful voices and took time out of their busy schedules to bring joy to our home.
And a very special thankyou to “Help Tuck Them In “and the Lutheran Ladies for the warm and generous gifts of blankets, pillows, and pillowcases. The residents’ expressions of joy and appreciation were truly heartwarming.
Your generosity, love, and community spirit remind us what this season is truly about — sharing joy, giving from the heart, and cherishing the bonds that bring us all together.
