Eleven TMB/WWG wrestlers took part in this past weekend’s Redwood River Riot.
David Schuh took second place at 139 pounds with a 4-1 record, losing in the finals to Martin County’s Pierce Rohman, the Class AA No. 1 wrestler in that weight division.
Logan Petersen (121 pounds) was 3-2 and finished in fourth place, and Taylor Squires finished fifth at 127 pounds by winning four of his six matches. Petersen placed a year ago, and this was Squires’ first time on the Riot podium.
At 189 pounds, Lawton Verlinde was 3-2 and was one match short of placing, and Weston Marten was 2-2 at 133 pounds and was also one match short of placing.
Nolan Verlinde (145), Nevin Marten (172) and Adam Hippe (215) all were 1-2 for the tournament.
For total points, TMB/ WWG finished in the top 10, right ahead of Fulda-Murray County Central. Marshall took second behind Holdingford, and Minneota was fifth overall.
The TMB/WWG girls finished in 16th place out of 23 teams. Raelynn Schreier (136) was sixth and along with Ashley Arellano (112), Jayda Snyder (130) and Evelyn Rentschler (142) all went 1-2.
Last Friday in Luverne, Bella Martinez (148) took first with a 3-0 record; Schreier was 2-2 for third at 136; Arellano was fourth with two wins; Braya Schreier (124) was fifth with a 2-2 record; and Kynlie Bornitz (112) and Kaylie Johnson (118) both took sixth.
The Panthers will wrestle in the Benson Tournament on Dec. 27.
