Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Dec. 29, 1955 — The Tracy Scrappers took their worst licking of the season to date at the hands of Walnut Grove last Friday, dropping an 82-34 decision for their fifth consecutive loss. Tom Hansen led the listless Scrapper scoring attack with 17 points, nine of them on free throws.
Dec. 30, 1965 — N/A
Dec. 24, 1975 — Paced by Kyle Flesner’s 26 points, Milroy slipped by with a 51-40 win over Echo. The Spartans led by just 25-22 at the half, but then rallied in the third and fourth periods, outscoring Echo 26-18.
Dec. 31, 1985 — Free throws in the final seconds put a close on a 60-57 Tracy cliffhanger over the host Windom Eagles to bring the Scrappers their second successive Windom Tournament championship. Tracy jumped to an early lead thanks to tremendous guard play from Mark Peterson and Tournament MVP Steve Mickelson. Mickelson led the Scrappers with 17 points.
Dec. 27, 1995 — The Marshall Tigers out-muscled the Panther boys, 51-40 at Tracy Thursday night. Although he didn’t start, 6-4 sophomore center Luke Ostgaard provided most of the spark for the Panther offense. He was the only one able to hold his own with the Tigers’ physical inside game as he hit for 21 points.
Dec. 28, 2005 — It’s been a good season so far for Panther wrestler Paul Carlson. The senior 189-pounder recently achieved the coveted 75-career victory milestone, and he’s off to a strong start with a 9-2 record. Individual wins and honors are nice, Carlson concedes, when prompted by a reporter. But the Panthers’ success as a team is the main reason Carlson is enjoying the ‘05-06 wrestling season. “The team is doing well, that’s the main thing. I couldn’t really care less what my record is as long as the team is doing well.”
Dec. 30, 2015 — The Panther girls went into the Christmas holiday break with a perfect 8-0 record following a 61-40 home court victory over Minneota last week. Sophomore post Evy Dolan’s 16 points led the Panther offense; she was followed by Sara Stoneberg with 13.
