No proofing allowed in this section

This special section is filled with mistakes. But they’re the cutest mistakes you’ll ever see.

Writing something like that is usually nothing to brag about. Mistakes are like grenades. They’re fine if you catch them right away before the pin is pulled, but if you fail at that, they cause damage.

But this edition is different. The mistakes that you see — the spelling errors, the grammatical oopses — are just fine. In fact, not only are they expected, we type them in that way. Why? It’s not meant to embarrass any kid or their parents. We leave them because it protects the authenticity and innocence of the letters and the kids themselves.

We’re talking about first-, second- and third-graders here. These are not trained scribes. They’re kids who are leaning how to write, how to put a sentence together. So we leave them.

They’re filled with mistakes, but they’re pure.

Anyway, this section isn’t about perfection. This section is put together for fun. As you read through this, you have to remind yourselves that these are little ones, little ones who believe in Santa Claus, elves and the North Pole like yours truly.

There is no serious news in this section. There is no city council or school board stories. There is no game coverage. There is no court reporting going on here.

This is about the kids and their imagination. We put this section out because it’s fun for us, and we want it to be fun for you, too.

We want you — no we encouarge you — to take the time during your holiday hustle and bustle to sit back, relax and have a few laughs.

I know I did. Thank you, kids, for reminding us about the innocence of Christmas!
